Need Ideas

I have been going over my carb intake alot. I do exercise but still I am over:frown: and its a significant amount
So I am hoping the MFP community can assist
I am looking for low carb, high protein snack and meal ideas that do not contain egg ,fish or meat (been a vegetarian for my whole life essentially). I am not looking to do a low carb/high protein diet as its just not something I can maintain and I personally dont believe its sustainable
All my meals and snacks have too many carbs, so I am thinking if for example, I do a low carb breakfast or a few low carb snacks, then I can maintain the daily recommended intake
I sometimes do a protein shake for breakfast, but I want to add variety to my breakfast routine
For whatever reason, my body craves carbs and sugars and sometimes I give in...but really am trying to be good!
Please help!

 you didn't leave much room for options.
that doesn't leave many options. are you ok with dairy? you could supplement with whey protein. i can't speak to how many carbs there are, but from what i understand with some brands the carbs are negligible. if you don't want to do whey protein, hard cheese is going to be your next best bet.
i've never understood how anyone could do low carb AND be a vegetarian, but if it works for you then more power to you!0 -
I've read some mix whey protein into Greek yogurt and add berries.
I've also seen some make protein powder pancakes, though I'm not sure what you'd replace the eggs with - maybe cream cheese?0 -
Are you getting enough protein?
Do you have a medical reason to watch your carbs, like PCOS or diabetes?
If the answer to the first question is yes and the second is no, then don't worry about it too much. Carbs are only the enemy if you have a medical problem or if you're eating so many you're not getting enough protein, or if most of your carbs are from white sugar/white flour goodies without much else in the way of nutrients. (Nothing wrong with some of those, of course. Treats that fit into our calories keep us saner.)0 -
You're right, low carb/high fat is probably not sustainable if you're not eating much protein. I would think being a vegetarian in itself would mean you consume a fair amount of carbs, given almost all vegetables have carbs and I'm sure you're not living on steamed broccoli.
I've always wondered about the whole vegetarian thing. All the processed "replacement products" designed to fill the hole in a diet devoid of meat. I'm not sure that can be good for you. I'm not judging, mind, I grew up on a farm and couldn't eat meat for a good 5 years or so because Dad killed our own, and I just couldn't reconcile eating animals I'd helped to raise. But all those soy, and tofu, and powders and stuff can't be good for you.0 -
What do you consider an "excessive amount" of overage, and why? Do you feel the overage is having an impact on your weight loss? Are you diabetic, or medically expected to limit your carbs?
If what you are doing is working for you, and there is no medical reason to change things, I wouldn't worry about it.
You can try adding PB2 to ?? greek yogurt?? maybe? (Although it sounds like your food choices are not lacto-ovo vegetarian, but actually what I would call vegan).
Peanut butter on apples or celery?
Edamame?
Nut/Soy milk?
Hummus with vegetables?
Nuts?
Dried beans, Seitan (wheat protein (gluten) formed into meat substitute), and Peanut butter seems to be about it that isn't dairy or eggs.0 -
Do you eat dairy? Cottage cheese is my go-to breakfast. Greek yogurt and kefir also have a ton of protein. You could make oatmeal and stir in some protein powder and berries.
I eat eggs and supplement with protein powder, but you're welcome to look through my diary for ideas. I average 120g or so of vegetarian protein daily.0 -
If you love your pasta, you might consider Shiritaki Noodles. Getting the prep right is a bit of an art, but I really enjoy them. They are versatile, too.
There are many decent low-carb wraps to replace sandwich bread (I happen to love Tumaro's Ancient Grain wraps)
Peanut butter and almond butter are high protein (but high fat) and low carb and are a great addition to any fruit and some veg.
Look up a recipe for vegan cauliflower crust (egg free, low carb.) Its delicious.
Include more cheeses & yogurts in your diet. They are low carb, and can be low fat (but the full fat versions are often healthier - lower sodium, lower sugar - check the labels before deciding.) I find yogurt VERY satisfying, especially if I bulk it with a handful of fresh berries and a couple of crushed almonds or walnuts. NOM NOM0 -
Thank you for all your suggestions and comments thus far.
I am usually going into the high 200s sometimes with my carb intake.
I do have PCOS, and I am at risk for diabetes (almost every illness runs in my family). I am noticing the weight loss is very slow to non existant
I don't expect to lose 5 lbs a week..but at least 1 to 1.5 lb is reasonable (I do workout)..and thats not happening either.
--A little history..I was active on MFP a year ago and lost 25 lbs..got into a car accident and gained it all back since I had difficulty working out. However this time around its just much harder..---
I find myself getting hungry alot as well and craving those damn carbs! Dont know what to do to combat that..its depressing at times and I just give in and do the "walk of shame" to Tim Hortons to get my fix
Also, I tried the Shiritaki Noodles...for whatever reason I was sick to my stomach when I ate them.
I also have acid reflux which I hope goes away with PPI's so unfortunately I have to limit my cheese and dairy..though I love cheese! I drink almond milk and do eat greek yogurt
I limit my soy intake due to the PCOS, so only do Tofu every other week for lunch and avoid all other soy products0 -
Good sources of protein: brown rice, broccoli, almonds, lentils, peas, quinoa, sunflower seeds.0
