My year to shine!

Hi all!
2010 was meant to be my year to shine but instead I put on more weight! I have got to a point in my life where I actually weight more than I did when I was heavily pregnant.....sad, sad, sad! I never ever thought I would get to this point in my life and being only 5'1'' (155cm) and in a size 18 (Aus sizing) I am now screaming on the inside. I weight 84kgs (184 pounds) and I would truely love to get down to 60kgs (132 pounds). I know I can do this but my motivation is so slack and I get to a point that I sometimes really don't care AND I KNOW THAT IS NOT THE RIGHT ATTITUDE!!
Funny thing is that I actually don't 'see' myself being this big until I look in a full length mirror and then I nearly keel over and die - I am huge!
My husband is at a loss with me and doesn't truly understand why I am at the stage that I am. Well, I had two children, got major depression and was on antidepressants for a long time and I am still unhappy with my life in general!!
In July 2011 I am going to Bali with a friend and I am hoping that I can get down to an acceptable weight to at least enjoy myself and not be a miserable, fat, sweaty, tired tourist! I am hoping to have a New Body for Bali!
I am hoping that MFP will help me get my weight under control and back on track. I am wondering how others started....did they scour loads of cookbooks looking for the ones with calories listed? Did it take ages to adapt to the calorie counting? Are Protien Shakes something that people use? Are there other Australian members or is this mainly a Nthrn Hemisphere site?
Anyway, nice to meet you all and I will endeavour to be on here every night instead of being on FB!! LOL! I look forward to reading all about your journeys and to get inspired.
Cheers
Monika

Hi Monika,
Welcome here.
I started at your weight and my target is 67 kgs (I am a bit taller than you)
I managed to lose 8 kgs so far.
I just started counting calories and tried to stay around my calorie goal. I didn't make any major changes in food I eat. The only exercise I added (and this is after doing nothing at all) is that I started taking a brisk walk, 30 mins a day with my baby in the stroller. And I included some sit ups, started with 3 sets of 7.
I knew that if I make too many changes all at once - I won't be able to stick at it.
I also started reading some books on food and mood - i.e. how food can improve your mood and started incuding more of thise foods (because I was very low on energy and tired all the time)
And I set a realistic goal for myself, I didn't expect too much to soon. I actually gave myself time until June 2011 to lose 13 kgs. So far I have lost 8 in 3 months. I am thrilled of course, but I try not to go crazy with expectations. Also, if I feel lile an occassional chocholate or something, I eat it - I try to eat the healthier version, e.g. dark chocolate and not the whole thing. But I don't go weighing my food or being too obsessive about it.
So my advice, start slowly,
Once you see that ticker moving, it is going to make you feel better.
And make many friends on here - any support really helps.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks Stella77
I guess I might just become more familiar with my regular foods and their calories. I have a treadmill and I have just downloaded 'couch to 5k' on my ipod, so I intend to get that underway soon.
Support is def what I need as I don't get much at home. My hubby is a bit fed up with all the diets that I have undertaken and is a bit snide with me now. I am not telling him I am doing this one but if I keep to my regular foods (just not as much and not the chocolate variety) then he won't know much is happening. He does know I want my body ready for Bali, so he probably thinks I am trying to do that.
I am looking forward to learning more from everyone here!
cheers

That is a good approach. I was doing this in private (didn't even make my profile pulblic) for about a month! I wanted to see if I would actually lose any weight - and I have!!! And don't consider this a diet anyway! Because you can still eat whatever yo uwant just within your calories. So if you want a burger, you have a burger
What I also noticed is that after a month or so, I started craving healthier foods and I introduced some. They fill you up and you save on calories and they really do make you feel better. That was my main goal - to feel more energetic and not so tired all the time. And the better I eat the better I feel. Now I can pass by McDonald's and not feel like I am missing out (and this doesn't even mean that I will never have McDonald's again!)
So try it out for a few weeks and see what happens. And stock up on healthy snacks! Peopel have some great suggestions!0
