Gearing up for baby-fell off the maintenance wagon...

Hey ya'll!

I've been here for a while and successfully lost over 75 lbs in the last 3 years! I've done a great job at maintaining, until recently. My husband joined the National Guard, we bought a house, changed jobs, and now he's leaving for 5 months and I'm on my own to reset my habits and gear up to start our family in March (we'll start trying)...I've gained back about 10lbs from my lowest weight with all the tumult and I'm feeling pretty hard on myself about letting the stress interrupt my habits.

I have a 10k and a half marathon on my schedule and I do zumba twice a week as well. I need to incorporate more strength training (to prevent injury) but I really hate strength training (intimidation, nerves, fear i'll hurt myself).

I want to lose 15 to 20lbs in the next 5 months and really build up my strength/endurance to put my body in a great place to get pregnant and have a strong, fit pregnancy.

My husband leaves on the 22nd of September and I think I have a pretty good plan for cleaning up my eats and stepping up my workouts but tips, boredom busters, etc. would be amazing.

I'd especially love to hear from the group about those of you who have gained back some weight and got back on the wagon or who are gearing up to conceive.

Thanks all!

I was in great shape with my first and the pregnancy was great. With my second I wasn't working out regularly and I definitely felt the difference. My body hurt way more the second pregnancy and I think it was from not being as in shape as before. I think it's great you are preparing your body for the stress of pregnancy. I strength train at home (body beast) and I love it. I just started body beast a week ago but I did p90x and x3 before it. If you don't feel comfortable at a gym workout DVDs or you tube videos about strength training are a good option.
  • Yeah. I trained with a trainer for a while at the beginning of my journey and did a lot of body weight stuff but I think I need to start adding more weight. I might just start again with the machines so that I get at least SOMETHING in. I have a gym, but it's at my office (it's only 4 bucks a month so I can't beat that) and it's pretty limited for variety but it means I can work out during my day. I think rowing is a great idea, especially since I usually mix it up with jump rope but I don't want to push my knees too much when I'm training for races. I think something at home is probably best though because doing new strength stuff in front of co-workers is pretty embarrassing for me, which I should probably get over...but....I'm not perfect haha.

My sister (basically my physical copy) had two healthy pregnancies but her second she was much more active with and the pregnancy/deliver/recovery was much easier for her. Not that every pregnancy/baby/body is different but I just want to set myself for success and be able to start on the right foot. It's nice to hear that YES being active can help.

I really feel like I need support for my eating etc. especially since when he's away at Boot Camp i'll probably go to my more emotional eating habits again. Which I conquered the first time around....I'm hoping that having a BIG life change on the horizon will be keep me focused and let me indulge responsibly.

    Thanks all!
