Cold Showers?

Cold showers can be beneficial to your health, according to the below article.
http://www.yellowpages.ca/tips/taking-cold-showers-a-trend-on-the-rise/?tdcam=Outbrain
"Some experts also believe that taking a cold shower can elevate blood glucose, thereby suppressing the appetite and helping raise body temperature."
I gave this a big "Ain't gonna happen" when I read it since my apartment had a busted hot water tank for 3 weeks during -45°C weather, an experience I never want to relive.. What does everyone think about this article?

The last time I had an overenthusiastic date I told him to do that and I didn't hear from him again so I guess it did suppress his *ahem* appetite.0

Cold showers can have benefits. Those benefits are very hard to quantify. If you like them, go ahead. But forcing yourself to have a cold shower is not going to be the magic bullet to weight loss.0

After a HARD workout, I sometimes need a cold (ish, not freezing) shower to cool myself down, otherwise it can take hours for my face to stop being bright red. If it has teeny tiny metabolic bonuses, then all the better I suppose!0

It's good for your hair since the folicles don't open up. I'll sometimes rinse in cold water after everything's done since it closes pores on your skin too.
But a whole cold shower? For me, it's more about the pleasure of an experience that trying to con a few more seconds of life out of this world.0 -

Ditto. It can be a bit embarrassing sometimes, no? I've been in a few situations where people were concerned for me because of my beet red face. Even taking a cool/tepid shower (about as cold as I can stand) doesn't always do the trick.
Anyway, back to the OP. I would imagine the benefits are slim to none - similar to drinking ice cold water vs room temp water or eating so-called negative calorie foods.0 -
I like my showers as hot as I can get them, to the point of being scalded. Probably not so great for my skin though.0

In the winter I set the temp a little cooler. My skin gets so dry if I take a hot shower during the winter months.0

I had an apartment issue that required a cold shower once. Bot Howdy, do I remember taking a cold shower!!!
I went and stayed at Mom & Dad's that night so I'd have a warm shower the next day.
Taking cold showers, my apologies to Shirley and Carmine, is insane.0 -
-45 degrees Celsius??? Where were you?0

It sucked so bad! 3 freaking weeks during the coldest cold snap of the worst winter Winnipeg has seen in 100 years. I thought I was going to die of hypothermia every morning.
If I hadn't been carpooling with someone who didn't have a car, I definitely would have moved home for the month.
Oh and no, my landlords didn't give me (or anyone) a discount that month.
ETA: Why do I live here again?0
