I am a mother of 19 and 20 year old sons and have spent my life doing things for everyone but me. I now find myself overweight and out of touch. I could really use some help cuz' I have a hard time making myself a priority and I feel selfish when I try to make time to work out. I have never done anything like this but I am really excited about MFP and hope I can gain some friends to help me along the journey!!

I'm the mom of a couple of teens myself (18 and 15), and I totally relate to what you're saying. This is a journey that's totally worth taking, and you won't be sorry. Taking care of yourself is good for you AND for your loved ones, and you are going to feel so amazing after you've stuck with it for a while!
  • add me if you want some support :) I have 2 young girls at home and I know what you mean about feeling selfish about making time for yourself. It is hard but it makes you a better person because you will be happier!! Good luck!

I understand the guilt but there are a few ways to think about it. 1.) it's okay to have your own time sometimes, just schedule it and act as if it's a football game or soccer practice 2.) Excersize is a necessity to your health, if you take this time, not only will you're life be longer (seeing the grandchildren and stuff) but you'll have a better quality of life (which is easier on the family). Hopefully your family will support your decision to get healthy and this site will definately help too.
