My mom does and has similar issues. She's learned that the only way to exercise is to start small, be very consistent from day to day and not make her routine harder except in tiny increments. Even tiny changes in her routine increases her pain until she heals. I don't know where you are physically right now, but over the winter if she doesn't walk she will get to where she can't even walk a tenth of a mile without being in misery. So she starts by walking to the end of the driveway and back, slowly. Then when that hurts less, adds a little more the next day. She can work up to walking a mile over a period of a couple of months, but if she ever stops for a period of time then then she has to start all back over again.

This is very good advice. Also fibro medications can help some people (I personally saw no difference) so its worth a shot. I have noticed when I'm in better shape the fibro bothers me less...so working through the pain in the beginning can prove to make a significant reduction in the pain later...at least for me. Good luck!

I have it. At first when I started my journey, I found I could only do walking....slow walking at that. It was low impact and actually made my muscles feel better. Slowly slowly added more distance, walked further and incorporated Zumba and light weight training. I have days where I over do and pay for it. They key is listening to your body...don't try and do too much at once otherwise you kill yourself and have to rest a few days. Then it's hard to get back into the routine. In the long run...the exercise and weight loss has done wonders for me. No more Savella or anti depressants for me. Exercise gives me the stress relief endorphins. Sounds so cliché but it's true.
