The subject says it all....I like to enjoy nuts and peanut butter in moderation, but these foods are my dad's weakness foods. And by that I mean he will eat more than the serving size. He would eat a whole jar of pb in 2 days if I let him. So, I buy these foods for myself and hide it from him. I find the whole idea of hiding food absolutely ridiculous. Does anyone else do this? I am so fed up with him because he will search the house looking for food and sometimes he finds it and will gorge! This is a) unhealthy and b) expensive!! I don't want to be spending extra on groceries just cuz he can't control himself. Ugh, does anyone else have this problem?? I need some suggestions about how to solve this issue. Whenever I tell him about serving sizes he just tunes me out- so frustrating!!

My father-in-law does this. Tortillas, beans, anything me and my hubby buy. Man is like a vacuum! We tried talking to him. It helped a bit. But we still are hiding food.0

My dad does this too. We really have to specify if it's something that we want because otherwise it disappears. Unfortunately, hiding it is actually the least painful solution we've found. If we stop him from eating something, it hurts his feelings; but if he never finds it - out of sight, out of mind.
We also buy lots of things (like ice cream) in single serving containers.0 -

Have you thought of inviting him to join up on MFP? :flowerforyou: His story sounds like some members here struggling with food issues. Patience and tolerance can go far toward helping a person when they are out of control, whether it be food or any other addiction. This might be the perfect place for him to learn how to eat in moderation.
EDIT: If you're living in your parents home and they are buying the groceries then that's one thing, he's probably actually free to eat as he likes, even if that's not the healthiest. But if you're purchasing the groceries for yourself, hiding them might be the only means while you're living there to have them until you're out on your own at least. I'm not quite sure of your living arrangement...but it does sound like it would be frustrating for you and him both. Particularly you if you've preplanned your snack/meals with the food and then go to look only to find it gone.:frown:0
