Would one bad carb day ruin ketosis?

I've been on a low carb - high protein diet for a while now (and reaping the benefits) but I made a mistake last night and didn't get enough sleep, so when I came in to work I reached for a Lucozade and a single-finger Twix to try and get me through the day and keep me awake.

I'm normally under 50g of carbs per day but the Lucozade alone has taken me over that now so I'm looking at around 125g for the day. I've learned about the signs to show you're in ketosis but I haven't educated myself on how easy or hard it is to fall out of it. So my question is will these two items of weakness mess up my hard work? My meal plan will still only have me at 18% carbs for the day so I'll still be partaking in more protein and good fats than I have carbs.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Well it will move you out of ketosis. But honestly having a high carb day once in a while isn't really that bad. Look up refeed days.

note I am not a fan of carb restriction I think it's unhealthy but just giving honest advice based on our goals.

I have done the Low carb diet in the past ( I gained it all back) my advice to you is if you are worried about having too many carbs today just don't weigh tomorrow and then you won't even notice any difference. Good luck.
  • Looks like you are being very mindful of your chosen macro balance act, so yes it could I guess. I have toyed with the idea of high protein eating but I'm in middle age and there has been a lot of research pointing to an increased risk of cancer from high protein eating plans, http://www.livescience.com/43839-too-much-protein-help-cancers-grow.html
Apparently the risk shifts in favour of high protein when you get over 60 due to the danger of muscle loss at that stage, but its best avoided in middle age, I will stick to my medditerainan diet.
