Low Level Laser Therapy

Hi MFPers, I have a question about dealing with knee pain. My mother was approached by a woman last year who recommended low level laser therapy or LLLT for her osteoarthritis on the knee to reduce knee pain and allow her to walk better. We've done a little research online and found conflicting reports about this procedure.
My question is--has anyone on this board used these treatments for arthritis either rheumatoid or osteo? What was your experience with it? Did it have long term effects or short term effects? Did you spend a considerable amount of money on the treatments?
If you're not sure what kind of treatment I'm talking about, here's wikipedia's summary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_level_laser_therapy
Thanks! Any input is appreciated.
