Can this be true?

I have been working out sincerely for the past 3 weeks. Last week I gained 1 lb, but I kept myself motivated to keep doing my workouts and food journal. I noticed my arms getting toned.

I am weighing in myself everyday to motivate me. I hear the recommendations from the group not to do quite often. But it keeps me on my toes with my workout.

Today I was little low. I was annoyed with my husband. I didn’t get a chance to workout in the morning. Have meetings in the afternoon. I wanted to go gym but its snowing. I was gloomy.

I decided to read MFP forums to get motivated. I remembered that I need to post my weigh for one of the challenge and went in and weighed. It showed 195.4 Lbs. Unbelievable. Since the last week it was showing in 197 range. Can this be true or my scale planning games with me as the rest of the things in my day?

    Well i guess since you work out that you will probably gain in time some muscles, but loose fat! I think if you are being serious about the weight loss this can totally happen... but i would wait a little bit and see what happens in next few days. I also step on scale every day and it can play some weird tricks. Thats why i like to keep a graph to remind me how it goes up and down, but mostly down:D

    This is simply not the case. For a woman to gain even one pound in muscle would require months of very strict food control, cardio and heavy weight training. This is one of those diet myths.

    As far as the loss of 1.6 pounds....what is your question? That you should have lost more? Your weight will fluctuate from 1-5 pounds daily depending on many factors. Keep with the program and it will continue to work for you. :smile:

    Wednesday is my weigh in day and I just couldnt believe the scale. So I was thinking, whether it is for real or not?

    I will try to stick with workouts.

    real in what terms. Are you asking if the scale is broken? I doubt it. CMR said it, because of waste, water, and glycogen stores at any particular moment your weight can fluctuate up to 5 lbs above, and 5 lbs below your "real" weight. It's extremely difficult to know exactly what your actual weight is. The best way for any of us to do this is to do 2 things, first, always weigh yourself with the same clothes, at the same time of day, after eating the same thing (or better yet, right after you get up and do your "business" in the morning, naked). Second, weigh yourself over a 3 or 4 or even 5 day period, take all the weights and add them together and divide by the number of days, that will give you a more accurate weight. Do that every week and you should be able to tell if you're losing weight consistently.
    And always remember, most home scales are macro tools, good for judging ABOUT what something weighs, but bad at judging exactly what something weighs. so never look at a 1 or 2 or 3 lb weight loss or gain and panic, there's a margin for error with scales and the human body both.
