Best at home program/machine for building muscle & toning?

So, I have a lot a total of 55 pounds and have a little bit more to lose before I am at my ultimate weight loss goal. While I do some cardio exercise I think I am at a point where I need to start focusing on more strength training / muscle building exercises.

I know my best bet would probably be to start going to a gym because of the wide variety of equipment, however I am not sure I would be comfortable doing that. I have a bit of social anxiety and going to a place like a gym would be especially tough for me. It's definitely something I want to work towards doing in the future, I am just not sure if I am ready for that at this point.

I am looking to get some recommendations for some at home workout machines or programs that will allow me to get close to the same results I would get at a gym. The areas I would like to focus are my midsection (chest/abs) and my arms. I am a 23 year old male, 5'10 and 168 pounds.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have!

If you are working to get ripped, any program that incorporate weight training will help but it also depends on body composition. Personally, i like workout videos: I love body beast (using it as a cut program, not bulk) but also like the P90X series. If you dont like videos and have equipment, starting strength, strong lift are great programs to follow.

Gym or home depend on what will motivate you to DO IT! If you need the convenience of home great (like me) or the motivation of working out with others is what I think should drive your choice. But you can do plenty of strength exercises at home with no equipment. push ups squats etc. I liked P90X. You do need dumbbells ($$) or bands ($) and you do need a pull up bar ($), but the rest is body weight stuff. I like the dumbbells better but they do cost more.

I use Fitness Blender on YouTube. They're great workouts, there are lots of them to choose from and best of all, they're free. I used to make myself a playlist for the week ahead but recently bought one of their 8 week programs for $5.99.

Get some free weights, a bench and a rack. Check out Craigslist / Gumtree / eBay where there's usually plenty of second hand equipment up for grabs.

Check out Stronglifts 5 x 5 and download the app. Follow the program, training 3 x per week.

There are many at home programs that you can follow. As the above mentioned Body Beast and P90x I hear are great. Also you can follow dumbbell routine from All Pro on bodybuilding.com. Youtube has great routines as well as Fitnessblender.

A squat rack and barbell are great if you have the space. Otherwise a pull up bar and adjustable dumbbells will get the job done.

P90X, P90X3, and Body Beast all worked very well for me.
