It's not about weight loss, it's about life

I decided to post this under "Getting Started" because I had one of those epiphany moments that has basically started a new attitude within me.
Making a decision to be healthier doesn't just involve making better food choices and getting dome decent exercise. So much more is affected, as I'm learning. By making a decision to take care of myself, I've opened up a whole lot more, way more than I ever expected.
I am going to take full responsibility for what has happened up until now. In one of my first posts, I mentioned how years of eating whatever I wanted and drinking whatever I wanted had ZERO effect on me. Well, yes it has. So maybe the clothes still kind of fit okay, but what about the nutrition I've been lacking? What about not getting a decent sleep because I'm eating at 9:00 pm? What about feeling like I'm going to fall apart after climbing ONE flight of stairs? Yeah. It has affected me alright.
So making the decision to become healthier was a no-brainer. Naturally I got the comments - you don't need to lose weight, you don't need to work out. To that I say - you know what I need? To do something for myself. For once, to take the time to do something that benefits me.
Well...that snowballed into a lot more. It gave me the courage to be bolder in my career and move ahead. It gave me the energy to go out and do things and meet new people. It gave me the boot in the pants to really redefine myself. Just from making the decision to take better care of myself physically.
I used to be a people-pleaser, in a way I still am. I like to help. I do not like being taken advantage of, but I have allowed it to happen way too often. I didn't exercise for the longest time because I was told I was fine the way I was, and exercising would just cause me to lose weight and look sickly. Yeah ok. Guess what, I started exercising, I started eating better, and I FEEL GOOD. However anyone else feels is something I cannot control.
Sorry for the ramble. I just felt the need to get this out there.
