So on the tracker on my phone, WHAT does the "Remaining" calorie category mean? My goal is 1220 a day, and I have eaten 422 so far today, burned 750, and the net is -328 and there is the "remaining" part... I'm so confused, someone HELP! :)

  • Remaining is how many you can still eat for the day and not go over your limit Brooke : )

The phone app is great btw, I'm still bugging my friends by pulling up restaurant items and logging them in front of their faces... just did it with a Subway veggie sandwich about two hours ago with my Mother in Law...

It's the calories you still have left to eat today.

Your daily goal PLUS your calories burned equal 1970. You've eated 422 of that. You still need to eat 1548 calories.

When you exercise, the calories needed by your body to perform that additional work are added to your basic caloric needs.

Remaining is how many calories you have left to eat. MFP is set to work with a set calorie deficit goal that is built in before any exercise is considered. FOr that reason, exercis calories are considered extra and are added to your daily calorie goal - if you eat them back, you'll still keep your deficit to lose your goal weight. I dont' eat 100% of mine back because it's easy to overestimate exercise calories, but you should try to eat some back!

So if your goal is 1220/day, then your remaining should be 1220 base goal + 750 exercise - 422 eaten = 1548 remaining

NET is your calories consumed minus exercise: 422 - 750 = -328 This means you've burned all your calories consumed today up in exercise, plus some - it's generally advised not to have a NET below 1200 (positive 1200).
