exercise then and now

Hi all,
After not exercising for about two years I am starting back. I use to do book camp three to four times a week. Which was awesome but it was basically all I did. I was going through a divorce. I am happier now than I have been before so decided time to take care of me. My issue is that I get discourage because swimming five laps leaves me out of breath. I know I need to build up again but it makes me feel like why even try?

Small steps. My exercise started with some home DVDs and I couldn't even get through the warm up! It took me 4 months to be able to finish one. Then walks... one block at a time. You can do it!

You try so that you do not give up and feel like a failure. You always gotta try! It may take time or baby steps, but day by day you will get back to where you want to be. Many of us have been there. You got this. Just don't ever give up!

Thank you so much! I know I have to try but it's been discouraging lately. If I did it before I can again but today for some reason I'm really discourage. All I want to do is hide in bed. Thank you

Well, establishing your fitness takes time...it doesn't happen overnight...nobody goes from untrained to trained overnight. A couple years ago when I was just getting started back into the world of fitness, all I did was walk...a lot of walking and slowly increased intensity and difficulty.

I'm two years in and I ride my bike around 80 miles per week and lift weights 2-3 days per week. I ride even more when I'm actually training for an endurance event like a half or full century.

    Baby steps.
