Are detoxes myths?

Are detoxes or diets where people eat certain things with the objective of attaining a detoxifying or cleansing effect on the body mythical/made up, money grabbing hokey, or do they really work? Not interested in trying, I just wanted to see what others think on this subject.

Yep. Because ingesting foods or juices, etc. does nothing to rid the body of anything....................except hunger.

Cheers! looks like they about covered everything lol.
I was having a discussion with my mum, her friend who is a nurse apparently did some 'detox' and my mum and her think it really did detox her body because she felt soo much better, had heaps of energy and better skin and it was supposed to detox the liver blah blah. I have heard people mention that it's unnecessary here before, but she was insistent it worked (probably as her friend is a nurse and should know). It was just one of those diets where they cut all meat & dairy because they have toxins and pretty much eat unlimited fruit and veg, not necessarily calorie restriction.

I think they're just gimmicks! Colons, livers, kidneys, and other organs "detox" for you. Hence why we have bodily functions!

I also like to point out to people that ANYONE can create a detox or endorse one, and they do not need any educational background in medicine, science, or nutrition to create one. They aren't even FDA approved.

Are they necessary? No. Can they help someone feel better and spot problem foods? Yes. (Don't spend money on it or consider gimmicky ones like Master Cleanse, though.)

Someone posted this the other day. It's a long article about toxins naturally occurring in foods.

What about the patches you put on the bottom of your feet to "collect" all the toxins? That's gotta be legit, right?
