Hi Everyone! I don't use a scale. Anyone else?

Hi everyone. I just joined MFP and I am looking forward to being a person who sheds unneeded weight. I used to scale obsessed which led to emotional eating so I do not have a scale at my house nor will I again. I have told my doctor I am not a number and will focus on being healthier while watching the measuring tape and clothing sizes get smaller. I can't control my weight, how much I shrink, but I can control what I put into my body which is why MFP is in my pocket and on my computer.

Good that you figured out one of your triggers. You can add me for support if you'd like!
  • I have a scale but my tile is uneven so I cannot use it in the house, and I am too lazy to use it outside the house :)

I don't use a scale... I've been fine without one so far. I do measure cups, tsp, tbsp... but weighing, no.

I've tried it both ways. In the end I find that whether or not certain pants zip is a much more accurate tool to follow my weight loss than a scale is, even the digital one I bought to replace my old twirly-dial one that had big black numbers on it and a red line on the glass window. If the light blue twill pants zip... woo hoo!! (Not that they have for about a year, but that's what I'm here to work on.)
  • Welcome to MFP! I don't use a scale. I keep up with my progress by watching how my clothes fit.
  • Still monitor, but not to measure success. My weight has fluctuated over the last couple years (that's when I actually began to loss) and what I noticed was that the beginning I was able to lose weight with adjusting my intake and what I was eating. Then I began to work out with weights and began to gain weight back. For me (like others) it was how much different my clothes fit.
  • I refuse to use a scale, because my weight fluctuates soooooooo much. I need to lose 70 more pounds, and I am doing it by inches. I have a chart that says the average weight and inches for each size. I'll paste it here. That is all I need. I measure myself once a month with my "Power Punch Ribbon" a pink measuring tape. Of video I post myself hole punching my new hip measurment and I post it on facebook. Check out my page "dieting diva tnt" I am a firm believer in measuring instead of weighing. I have heard that from a fitness trainer too. When I measure my hips they are not going to fluctuate even with woman trouble.

@thedietingdiva - Thanks for sharing the chart, very informative. I do use a scale for reference but see the main difference in how my clothes fit different. The scale goes down a pound one day, up a pound the next. However, when I can fit into the shorts that didn't fit me at the start of summer, that's when I know change is happening!!
