I'm from southern California and we do the tamale thing too. my family actually made some for Christmas and they were delicious even though they played a big part in my holiday weight gain :p
  • I am from the Northeast, and Chinese is HUGE for New Years, both New Years Eve and Day! :drinker:

It's probably something to do with New Year and Chinese New Year being different, so all the Chinese takeaways are open and everyone else is too lazy or hungover to cook anything the day after New Years Eve lol

Yes I'm in the south and its Black Eyed Peas, Collard Greens, Fish or Ham ... o and a bunch of other things like you can't go into the new year dirty, everything must be cleaned ... no cleaning on NY ... a man must walk threw the door first .....

My family has never made anything specific for New Years, however my husbands family (polish) makes Perogis, Kraut & Kilbasi for New Years (and pretty much every other holiday!!)
