Weight Loss on Birth Control

Hi everyone! This is my first post in the forum so I'll try to not be completely awkward. I'm a teen with some acne and my doctor might put me on birth control. I'm not sexually active nor will I be in the next few years. I was wondering if the doctor putting me on birth control for acne and cramps with make me gain/not lose weight? Thanks in advance :)

    Welcome to the forums!

Birth control is one of those prescriptions that can have a really wide range of side effects depending on how it interacts with your body. If you're looking at going on BC for reasons other than preventing pregnancy, make sure you let your doctor know your concerns about still being able to lose weight/get healthy. They should be willing to help you find the right kind of BC for your body and your situation. For the most part, most pill forms of BC will cause some weight gain, but it's not always the case for everyone. For me personally, the NuvaRing is the best option because it helps with my periods amazingly and I'm still able to lose weight very smoothly on it. The pill made me crazy and I had a really hard time losing weight, but it might interact differently for you.

Be open to experimenting, be patient, and make sure your doctor is on the same page as you! You'll get it sorted out, good luck :)

It can be a side effect. But weight loss is caused by a calorie deficit. As long as you adhere to calories in vs. calories out you will lose weight.
