I'm back-- with Diabetes! :(

I'm Wendy, live in CT, and I'm looking for some friends and support!
I've been on/again - off/again pals with My Fitness Pal, but just found out I have Type 2 Diabetes, and now that I'm over the shock, I'm back in action to lose weight and control my sugar.
I lost 60 pounds about 18 months ago by just eating clean, and gained back a lot of it. I really like clean eating and do not like sugar substitutes and chemicals, so I'm wondering how to do this. I plan to log daily- and can use some friends and support!

Just added you! I'm 45, trying to lose 20 lbs- family history of diabetes. I gained 10 lbs in the last year. Paternal family members were thin, and ended on insulin despite being pretty healthy. My grandfather worked out constantly. very strict with his diet even before; with exception of red meat. Not where I want to be so being proactive. My aunt was Pre-diabetic, but was able to work out 5+ times a week and is not diabetic.

Hi Wendy....welcome back to Mfp. Sorry about your diabetes. My Dad has been dealing with that for over 30 years now (he's 83 years young now) and still going strong. I'm not a great example of clean eating but do try to watch my diet as best as I can. I find pre logging my food for the day helps along with searching on line for recipes. The recipe forum here helps too if your running low on ideas. I have been on Skinnytaste.com a lot lately they have some really good recipes. Good luck and go get it.
    Lisa.

Hi Wendy! Welcome back. It stinks that you have Type 2, but I can say that it can be very managable with diet and exercise (which of course is part of what you are doing now). I see that you introduced yourself on the Type 2 board. It's a great place and there are some great people that will most likely also be friending you. Post up there often with any questions and I know we will all do our best to help you out. Sending you a Freind Request and would be glad to cheer you on as you work through becoming healthier!
  • Hi Wendy. It sounds like you're ready to not only lose weight, but to make changes that allow you to maintain at a lower weight. Ask your doctor for a referral to a registered dietitian who can help you figure out the best type of eating plan for you. ~Lynn /Glucerna
