Hey i usualy like to just keep to myself but right now i'm desperate. i know this is nothing to do with weight loss or anything related
but i thought i could maybe get some advice anyway. here goes
Recently my boyfriend brought in a new puppy 15 weeks old jackahuaha as a present but i already have a five year old cat who is quite grumpy and territorial and she can get quite jealous. As you can guess they dont get along at all. The puppy is a sweety just wants to play and he is now scared of the cat after the cat attacked him. She just growls hisses at him and takes swipes of him when the dogs out the cage in the same room
I have tried separating them by keeping him in his cage while i let the cat wander about (shes purely an indoor cat) and while i let the dog out i put the cat in a seperate room. The thing is though theres time i dont even have the dog out for half an hour and she is whining and literaly taring up the carpet to be let out but i dont want to keep the dog in the cage all day its unfair on both of them i know but i love them both. i have heard on other websites that if i have time and patience they can eventually get along but the way things are going i feel as if i have to give the puppy up. I really don't want to do it as i adore him already.
I was hoping that someone out there has been in the same situation and was able to make things work and had any advice, I would apprieciate it greatly. Thank you in advance.

my brother had a cat who ruled his house and wouldn't allow for any other animals. he eventually adopted a new stray cat, and they fought a lot, he had to lock one into one room and the other in another room. eventually they did get used to each other with small bursts of together-time. he has separate spaces for them still, although they roam together during the day but sleep separately at night. it sounds like a lot of work to me. I would probably get rid of the puppy. LOL0

If you persist and remain calm around your animals, you will get there. This is good advice here http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Cat-and-Dog-Get-Along and here http://dogtime.com/my-cat-doesnt-like-my-new-puppy.html Also a good idea to ask your vet for some tips.0

why exactly does it matter if the cat growls hisses and takes swipes at the puppy?
I find it hard to believe that the cat is constantly viciously attacking the dog (while the dog attempts to avoid the cat) to the point of causing injury. Typically if you give the cat room to get away it will hiss, spit, swipe and run- all causing a little noise but no one otherwise worse for the wear. Eventually the cat learns it is not going to be injured and stops being so defensive.
If the puppy is chasing the cat, put up baby gates, the cat can go over but the dog can't (I leave them up off the ground so the cats can get under as well and they dogs can't but your dog may be too small for that while a pup).
They both should sleep like 20 hours a day, can't you just let the dog out when the cat is sleeping?0 -
Make some high places the cat can go when the dog is out. You must control the dog chasing the cat. I know a puppy wants to play but a stern no and if need be put in cage every time it bothers the cat. Sooner or later the dog will get the message and the cat won't feel afraid. Sometimes a spurt of water from a water bottle at the cat if it is attacking for no reason. Hopefully peace will follow. Hope this helps. Good Luck0
