Can a pocket scale be used as a food scale?

I need a scale to measure grams and ounces but I don't want to buy a food scale. I have a pocket scale. Would that work instead?

A pocket scale should do for most things. A food scale handles small plates but you probably could get creative -- for example, weighing a chicken breast.

If you weigh raw chicken chicken on your pocket scale, please do me a favor, and don't get any on my weed.

It will work but depending on it's maximum weight, won't be as functional. For instance, if I want to weight cereal I put a bowl on the scale, zero it, then put my cereal in the bowl. Depending on the weight of the bowl and the limit on the scale, that might not work. Sometimes a make a dish containing several ingredients intended to be served to multiple people. I will usually weigh the entire dish then portion out how much of it I want to eat. A pocket scale would not work when I make a week's worth of bbq chicken in a slow cooker. A food scale only costs like 15 bucks at Walmart. It will potentially last for years. It's worth the investment IMO.
