Protien

Hi All,

Been doing well so far. I lost 63 pounds in around 4 months, I have been doing cardio and Karate and MMA 3+ times a week. I still have 50 or so pounds to loose. MFP has me on 74g of protein at 1,450 calories.should I be getting more? I am going to be 50 and have lifted weights on and off my whole adult life. I really want to make this lifestyle change stick and I am mentally ready to be strong and healthy in my later years. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Mike

  • I have dieted on and of my entire life. Just recently I made up my mind that it was time to change for good. I have been flexible dieting, just staying away feom all processed and fast foods keeping my protein/carb/fat intake at around a 300 calorie deficit per day. It has been surprisingly easy and I dpnt miss the crap food I ate prior. Stick with it and make your mind up that ypu dont ever want to go back.

    74 protein is about right.
You can change your settings to half a pound a week so that you have more calories.

Hi Mike. So you've been losing about 4 pounds per week? That's fast! 1450 calories a day seems low for a male, especially with the exercise you're doing. I would say yes you should be getting more protein and more calories, but I'm not an expert, and I don't know all the details about you.

BTW, that's an awesome looking guitar! My son plays, and I just bought him an Ibanez that made the salesman drool!

Its funny i had a recent Doc appointment with my Primary Doctor and he was very pleased with the weight loss. I had asked him should i boost my caloric intake and the fact that I was possibly concerned about causing issues with my heart loosing too fast and he actually laughed at me LOL. He was pretty much like "you are worried about your heart after loosing 60 pounds but not when you were 100+ pounds overweight"!? After all that said I still might boost my Calories by a few hundred with lean protein especially when I am training.

Ahhh Guitars... I love them. I have been playing almost 40 years. Most of my degrees are in music. The guitar in my profile was a early 50th B day gift from my wife. She's the best! :)

protein should be .08 g per pound. I'm female 5'3 and mine is 113 g per day.
