Buying new clothes

When did anyone begin to buy new clothes? I have lost 28 pounds and I begin to see a difference in the clothes especially my dress clothes as nothing I wanted to wear to a wedding yesterday looked nice. I kinda want to put it off incase I lose enough and then have to go out and buy more. Do you just wear them until the completely fall off or what???? I guess this is a good problem to have.

It depends on where you work and the expectations with regard to dress and whether you see lots of people through out the day.
Last weekend I gave away a huge pile of clothes.
Others I took to a seamstress to take in. Those will work for one more size.
I figure instead of a closet full of things that make me look "off," I have a few items that I love and that look good.
Essentially, my closet is lighter now (less stuff) and I am lighter now.0 -
I only bought at the change of season if what I had was falling off or when underwear was really too loose. Hate wasting money on something I will only wear for a couple months. I only bought shirts when I was 10 pounds from my goal, and I still wear those.0

Stretched out my before work clothes (size 66 pants and 6xl shirts) with adding notches to my belt until around 90lbs and 10 sizes down then my loving wife told me it was time to get better fitting clothes for work.
How time has flown as yesterday i started weeded out all my progress clothes (/58/50/48/46/44/42) that are now tents.

Well I've enjoyed buying new clothes in smaller sizes but generally shop only thrift stores because I know they won't fit too long. When I began tripping on the bottom of my jeans I got rid of them and bought a smaller size. In plus sizes it seems like the clothes fit over a broader weight-range, but now that I'm in "normal" sizes I find I need to go down a size about every 15 pounds.
I still have a long way to go so I will be buying interim sizes for a while.0 -
i had to buy a few pair of shorts to get me through the end of the summer, i have lost some inches. but i am not doing an overhaul of my wardrobe until i lose it all. i just wear belts with alot of my pants if they are too big.0

I bought one pair of jeans in every size down to my goal size. That way I at least have something to wear. Then once I can't wear my old clothes at all, and they fall off, then I'll buy a couple more pieces in the size I'm at.0

I am just starting my journey, but can't WAIT to start buying some new clothes at our local thrift shop. It is one of my goals, LOL. My kids and husband love to shop there and I am looking forward to joining them.0

^yup. All the clothes I bought are from a thrift store. 1 dollar for each pair of jeans. can't beat that!0 -
I promised Myself a new outfilt when I got to a size 16, the rest of the stuff I bought from charity shops, didn't see the point in keep spending lots of money whilst my weight kept going down. My size 16 outfit lasted about 2 weeks then was too small.0

For me it's ongoing. I replaced the exercise clothes first because that's where I spent most of my time & noticed it the most. You can't be running in public with your shorts falling down! So I invested in a size down in active wear shorts, capris, and yoga pants - just a size down in the same brands & styles I was already wearing. Next are jeans and replacing fall staples. I'm donating the pants and skirts that are too big. Expensive jeans that I have an emotional attachment to I'm trying to shrink via repeated dryer cycles, and cinch with belts. Anything else gets replaced, no matter how nice. Hope that helps.0

I didn't have a huge amount of weight to lose-- about 15 pounds-- and I still had some clothes from when I was younger and thinner. I wore those until I got within a couple pounds of my goal weight, and then started getting clothes in my new size. Some things I had from when I weighed more still look fine and I wear them regularly, but there were/are plenty of other things that no longer fit the same way and require alteration or wearing a belt, or just had to be given away.
My skinny jeans look like less tight jeans and must be worn with a belt. Most of my knit garments are OK. Many of my dresses ended up too big, including some very special and expensive eveningwear. I've altered a bunch of different dresses and shirts (down 2 sizes) and will eventually alter the evening dresses, when I have a reason to wear them again. Pants I don't alter. . . not worth the trouble. I got rid of several too-large pairs of pants, kept others that are functional with the use of a belt, and am very slowly building a collection of pants and skirts up again, partly from a free clothing exchange at my graduate school and partly by purchasing new. I like quality clothing, so when I buy something, it won't be cheap, but it will be an item that is multi-use and will last well.
I guess if I'd gone down more sizes, I would definitely have taken the thrift-store route others mention!0 -
It's a constant thing for me.
It's just crazy (and crazy expensive!) how fast I go through clothes. There are some I hate to part with, too.
I sell some on eBay and then use that money to buy some on eBay. I also buy some new ones - I've added Wal-Mart to my list of places to get tops - they have some really cute ones that fit nicely! Who knew?
A lot of my clothes and purses get donated to battered women, who often start over with nothing but the clothes on their backs. (Always have to plug donating to battered women!)0 -
When my shirts look like I'm wearing a tent, or I can no longer keep my jeans looking halfwy decent, I allow myself one pair of jeans and 3-4 cheapish shirts. I still have more weight to lose, so I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I also don't want to look like a mess. A $100 investment in self confidence goes a long way0
