Fresh food for 3 weeks, today had Canned soup

As the subject pretty much sums up I've been SO frigging good for the last 3 weeks. Everything I have eaten has been fresh prepared at home. Nothing has been prepackaged. No soups, sauces, salsas or anything. Wait.. that's a lie. Pickles. I did not make the pickles or the yogurt!
Today I was not feeling well and opened what has always been a fall back for me. Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup. it was AWFUL.
Has it always been without flavor and I've never known it? I've never been a fan of carrots but what where those orange things? And as for a Heart Healthy choice? The amount of grease after the first bite felt like it coated my mouth.
Maybe it is for the better and will make this lifestyle change easier but what a shock! Anyone else found any shockers?

On an upside, I broke the 200 lb marker today and weighed in at 199.2 Woo-hoo!

I am so much in agreement with this. I love homemade stews and soups as well as my entire family. I trick them into thinking it is a treat when in actual fact, they are eating extremely healthy. I love homemade.
The only canned thing I have eaten since joining here has been tomato soup in a homemade sloppy joe recipe.

Yup, your palette's been ruined. Next thing you know, you'll be making your own stock and soups.

Yep, it got to the point if I ate some chocolate I'd get stomach pains...so now I eat it a little more often

I'm the same on canned soup, it used to be my easy work lunch, now I can't stand it! I make my own and keep frozen portions in the freezer :)

I tend to make most of my food from scratch and when I try to eat pre-made stuff it just isn't right. This seems to go for baked beans, pre-marinaded meats, soups, pasta sauces etc...

I still eat processed foods. But I have started cooking more than I was before. Not as near as much takeout. I am enjoying cooking more though.

It's hard sometimes to cook just for one.

It's cool when you notice how prepared foods don't taste as good as they used to. Like when I ate cheesy poofs and I found them to be way too salty. And I loved cheesy poofs. But now, not so much.

I am going to have to get some containers to make a freeze the soups. That way it's on hand. Any suggestions? Ziploc bags, plastic containers?

Congratulations on moving under 200! That's a big accomplishment. And yes, after eating homemade for a few weeks, my palate changes also. It's amazing what we can grow accustomed to - on either side - healthy or unhealthy. I especially relate to your sensitivity to oiliness in foods. That really is unappetizing to me now.

    Keep up the good work!!

Lol - I totally know the feeling. I make my own soups and stock and don't eat anything out of a tin, packet, foil tray or takeway restaurant any more. I used to love canned lentil soup. Now it tastes awful lol.

As for the plastic containers, I've done that, but you have to be careful not to fill them to the top, because (I'm sure you know) frozen foods expand. Large and flat is best so it thaws quickly. However, I've lost many containers of frozen soups and stews through the years because I'm clumsy and they fall out of the freezer and break.

I like the zip lock idea. I'll have to try that.

Hmmm.. Maybe a Ziploc bag and store it in a plastic container until it's frozen! tah-dah!

I'll give it a whirl! Single serving soup for lunch.

I am finding that cooking several chicken breasts and having them in the fridge is a great option and that Garlic Dill pickles are a GREAT snack! Love EM!

Yes, it has always tasted like paste-in-a-can. Did you also notice it has so much salt that your tongue feels like it is burning? No? Then try Campbells.

    And welcome to Onederland!

Thank you for the greetings to ONEderland! FINALLY!

Ugh.. Paste - in - a - can.. soup.. whatever they want to call it.

The kitchen and meals are my friend. Spices and seasonings are new and now I can't ever go back. Time to figure out how to make several days worth of meals to have on hand. That seems to work out best for me.

I stopped eating it before losing weight, so it's been years, but I had the same experience.

Ziploc bags work wonderfully. I put soups in quart bags (not too full, because expansion) and lie them flat in the freezer. I actually have a shelf entirely stacked with soups and stews.
