Trying this again

Hi All,
I'm back....again. I can't seem to stick to a diet plan. I have been doing okay at maintaining a workout regimen, but as soon as I start to watch what I eat I breakdown. I have lost a lot of weight over the last year and a half, but I still have more to lose and I definitely want to tone up. The problem I have with calorie counting is that I am perfectionistic. I get too caught up in making sure my calorie count for the day is exactly right. I need a more relaxed approach. I am hoping this time it will work.

Welcome back. You could try something like "portion pots" or the 21 days fix (that doesn't sound like what it really is) if calorie counting isn't your thing.0

Keep up the hope! Many of us here have tried many times and were only sucessful the last time. The problem I have with calorie counting is that I am perfectionistic. In many ways I have the same problem. My general rule of thumb is anything I don't eat more than once every few weeks, I don't care to be 100% accurate. The more often I eat it, the more accurate I am.0 -
Everything I've learned in 2.5 years...
Calorie counting works, I understand you say you are a perfectionist and you need a more relaxed approach. It sounds like you need to work more on learning how to relax and realize that your food will never be perfect.
Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice.

It's about moderation not deprivation. There are no good/bad foods, only bad eating habits. Do or do not, there is no try. You have to want it, you have to work for it, you have to realize that only you can do it.

Hey!
That sounds just like me - I really question whether calorie counting is right for me, because I tend to throw in the towel if I go over, and eat out of 'failure'! There are lots of different approaches out there, and if you've lost the bulk of your weight you might look into intuitive eating - essentially throwing diets out the window and eating according to hunger. I did it for a while and lost quite a few pounds, and mentally it was so liberating. However, I'm just at the start of my journey, so I need something more sure-fire.
Alternatively, I know a few people who have focused on making sure every meal had protein, carbs, fat and vegetables, and kept the portions down.0
