2 years for me this month on MFP

Just thought I'd mention.... I've been on MyFitnessPal for 2 years this month.

I've gained a few pounds since then and lost a few too- but am pretty much the same weight as when I started (which is down 53 pounds from my highest weight in 2006)

Does that mean I'm doing well or doing poorly??

Sometimes I want to beat myself up for constantly regaining these last 10-15 pounds (Was 138 as a lowest adult weight in 2007, was 161 last January, was 144.5 last July- after putting forth some super duper effort for the entire first half of the year!) I mean, I KNOW when I'm eating things I shouldn't, or too much - or slacking (seriously slacking) in the exercise department) and I KNOW that I HATE seeing that number on the scale creep up, yet I still continue my bad habits!

But other times I think, maybe I'm not doing so bad after all - because it's been over 4 years since I hit my initial goal of 150 pounds in November 2006... and as of today, I weigh 155. I read somewhere once that most people who lose a lot of weight have a hard time maintaining that weight and often are back to their original size and sometimes larger within 2-3 years. I have surpassed that...... even when I've gained some back, I've not come close to being over 200 pounds again.

Anyway - here I go again, using the New Year as a reason to jump back in and lose these freakin' 10 pounds AGAIN! (hopefully by my wedding day on April 1st!)

Oh - and why the heck idoes it have to be so much harder to lose weight the 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th) time around??

MAINTENANCE IS TOUGH!!!!! :frown:

Totally agree that maintenance is tougher, I think tougher than losing weight! I am struggling to stay within my healthy range after losing the 40+ pounds that were my original goal. I am thankful that I succeeded, but it certainly has not become any easier. I give you credit for staying in tune to what is happening and tackling your weight loss along the way, rather than ballooning back up as so many do (and I am hoping I am not one of those). Keep losing that 10 pounds as many times as you have too to stay fit!

    Hi Wolfena,

I understand! I have been with MFP the exact same time as you. . The first year was awesome. The next year slow as I lost another 10# hitting my revised goal in November. Since then something bad snapped in my brain. I was trying to increase my calories to maintain and then suddenly I was eating everything in sight. This past holiday season I even started sneaking bites of real sugar chocolate! Something I hadn't done in almost 7 years!!!

I have reset my goals to be even lower...115. I don't know how to maintain, I only know how to lose very slowly! So that is what I will continue to do at least for awhile. It could take me all of 2011 to get to 115, so it is an OK plan.

I am starting to hate this but I am also trying to psyche myself up for another year with MFP!!

Congrats on not gaining it all back but it is so hard to see those pounds return.

Sounds like you are doing a great job. It is easy to backslide, which is why that statistic about putting weight back on is so horrible. I am concerned about maintenance and keep setting my goal weight lower. I know I will reach a point where I probably won't lose weight anymore, actually I am probably close and it is kind of scary.

That's why they call this a lifestyle change, not a diet. Although I have managed to keep a little of the fun stuff, like chocolate, in the mix right along.

Maintenance is SO much more impressive to me than weight loss. I can lose weight, I can gain weight, but maintenance has eluded me until now. For you to maintain a 50+lb loss for over two years...THAT is impressive.

I agree that the maintenance part is so hard and the fact that you have kept so much of the weight off IS IMPRESSIVE!!

Charmagne...I am from Orchard Park and you look amazing!!!
