corset waist trainer......

So one of the girls in my office has been telling me about corset waist trainers.....it sounds like the best thing in the world BUT it sounds far to good to be true?

Can you really drop a dress size? Has anyone ever used one and if so what were your results?

Thanks

It's just another fad that won't provide any results. If it sounds too good, it is.

If you do serious corset training your waist size will probably decrease. However, your body fat won't be any lower, you won't be any fitter, and you risk damaging your internal organs if you aren't careful. It takes a long time and is a serious thing, not just something people do on a whim.

squeezing your body means squeezing your internal organs and also making it harder to breathe. there's a reason women in the victorian and previous times who wore corsets used to faint all the time.

It's not only your organs that risk shifting. Your ribs can shift curvature.

I know some people are going to look at this (and the other warnings) and go, "Eh, everything has risks," but this is not one worth the time unless you've already lost the weight and want that Masuimi Max cinched waist look.

Sure, you can squish what's normally around your waist so it's above or below, but it's a temporary fix and changes function in the organs affected.
Not healthy, esp. not for long-term.
Can cause permanent disfigurement of the ribs & organs.

They are used to help recovery in spinal cord injuries, and sometimes to correct scoliosis, and for that they are beneficial, but I suspect the design is quite different from the fashion or fetish ones your co-worker is talking about.

I do believe you missed the joke. Why so serious?
  • I'm glad you posted this...don't believe the hype...I can't imagine how an undergarment regardless of how tightly you zip it can actually invoke any fat loss...body shapers like Spanx...do help you look more slim in nice formal wear but death to those ridiculous corsets and dumb body fat creams. ugh.

It won't make you lose weight. It just shoves the fat up and down.

Corsets sucked. That's why better things were invented and embraced.

    Just get some Spanx. :)

Corset waist training is misunderstood and often misused. It's not meant for weightloss, first of all. With a properly adjusted corset, you literally cannot eat very much because all your organs are squished together. It can also cause problems with blood flow and even cause fainting. It CAN make you drop inches in your waistline over time if the corset is TIGHT because it REARRANGES YOUR ORGAN LOCATION. You're not losing fat, you're just forcing it - and your organs - to be elsewhere.

Read that again. You are basically forcing a new shape on your body by wearing a garment so tightly and for so long it shifts to adjust. Similar to how in China they used to do foot binding the force an unnatural shape on the foot which eventually becomes permanent.

    ^^^yup.

wearing a corset =/= tight lacing or waist training.

I wear a corset occasionally- and gladly.

but I would never consider tight lacing- it's a long term body manipulation technique to physically force a new shape on to your body- which does bad things to bones and internal organs.

    is bad.

just wear corsets for the Renn Faire and fun times with your SO. Otherwise - diet and exercise.

I wear a corest for period costuming purposes. You should never wear a corset that is uncomfortable. It should never be painful. Yes, it will reduce your waist size while you're wearing it, but the corset comes off and everything goes back to normal. The biggest 'benefit' I could see it having to weight loss is loss of appetite. But I'm also usually so busy with costume things when I'm wearing one that food is on the back burner. If you want to wear a corset for fun, that's one thing. But I wouldn't think of it as a weight loss tool.

Ok so I will post what I put on the other corset thread... I love corsets!

I wear them out to dinner with a little jacket, I wear them for sexy time, and I have worn on them ON OCCASION to help me control how much I eat out, and I never over tighten.

If you haven't really dug into the topic you should read this. This is from one of my favorite places to get corsets, CorsetStory.com:
The waist training collection is made up of our most serious corsets. These are the ones intended for the highest degree of body reshaping and when fully laced will reduce the waist by six or seven inches. The broader Steel Boned collection, which includes a huge range of styles and colours, nips in the waist by between four and five inches. Of course, the waist training corsets are also steel boned- with no less than 24 spiral steel bones, in fact. They are designed, engineered, and tailored to provide unparalleled control, comfort, and shape.

Corsets like these over long periods can be used as a technique to reshape your body permanently, giving you a tiny waist even when not wearing a corset. However, this kind of undertaking is a pretty big deal. Take great care with anything that could have long-term effects on your health and consult a medical professional before you start a major waist training campaign. We'd all like to have a sexy hourglass figure but it's not worth harming your body to get it.

That sounds awful to me! (I did highlight some of the more important IMO bits)

When I get to goal however, I plan on getting myself something like this:

Please don't do it. I'd rather have a pudgy stomach and all of my internal organs working properly, than have an exaggerated hourglass figure and my insides be a complete mess. It's not worth your health. Because as others have posted it will create a host of issues. Just say no! :noway: :noway: :noway:

Waist training is actually a real thing. Yes you can lose inches off your waist.

But that requires tight lacing 23 hours a day, only taking it off to shower. And it must be a real corset custom made for your body with steel boning. These cost hundreds to thousands of dollars. If the corset is not made to fit your body it can cause damage.

No it won't damage your internal organs or your ribs. Your ribs are flexible. That's their nature. What it will do is cause muscle atrophy so that you will not be able to hold yourself up without the corset. Fortunately the effects are temporary. If you do decide tight lacing is not for you after awhile, in several months your body will go back to its original shape.

It's not something that I would do, but to each their own. I have a deep appreciation for corsets but only as decorative garments.
