Accepting that I'm no longer fat

It's New Years Day, and I've been thinking about something the past couple of days. My weight loss ticker says my starting weight was 176. But I haven't been 176 pounds since 2007. And, while a little chubby (easy to be when you're under 5 ft), I haven't been BMI-overweight since early 2009. So why do I keep hanging on to being fat? Don't get me wrong...I personally find it helpful to remember that i was a fat person who has lost weight...which keeps me diligent and from resting on my laurels. While some people may gain a few pounds over the years, i know i can easily gain 20 pounds in a year if I'm not careful. But I think it's time to really internalize my success.

I was obese...but now I'm not. Through alot of hard work I've lost weight and, for the most part, kept it off. I have some vanity pounds to lose, but I am at a weight (with the diet and exercise that goes with it), where I am not at increased risk of chronic illnesses.

And my sights shouldn't be forever looking backwards at the person I was, but learning about the person I am now, and challenging her to be the person she wants to be in the future.

So, I think in the next few days, I'm going to change my ticker. To reflect who I am now, and to open up a space for NEW successes.

Use it as a way to see how far you have come, not how far you can go back.

I would say change your ticker to help you with your own goals :) or your new year new you, or the same you that was hidden!
  • Thanks Valerie and Delicate! And yes, Delicate, I agree that not looking back at 176 as the number I could go back up too is part of letting it go.

    Thanks for your supportive words!
