(Android) Walking/Running apps – am I missing something?

I have got Mapmywalk, Runkeeper, Runtastic and Edemondo downloaded to my phone to see which app suits me the most. Either I am being unrealistic in my expectations or I am being dull, either way I can’t seem to get them to do what I want them to do.

I want to be able to log a route and re-walk (or run, if I ever get my *kitten* in gear) the route whenever I choose, with the aim of comparing times & splits. I have so far mostly used mapmywalk and I have logged a few routes into it, but I don’t seem to be able to compare times, etc, whenever I use the route again.

These apps may very well do this, but I am b*ggered if I can find out how; all I can seem to do is log the route, view the times and, well, that’s about it. If I want to compare times to whwn I have previously walked the route I need to re-log the route from scratch.

Is it me being dull or am I expecting them to do something they aren’t set up to do? Does anybody on here use these apps with a greater degree of success than I do?

It's website functionality on Endomondo, you can convert the track to a route, then select it for future sessions to allow comparison.

Don't know about mapmywalk, but I use mapmyrun, and it does have a 'coaching' function on it (i.e. you've ran 100m faster today than yesterday, or you're 21secs faster getting to this point than the last time), but you have to upgrade to get it (£20 a year), I have a spreadsheet that I put all my split in and the route/distance I've gone and I compare it myself!!

Some of them may require you to purchase their "pro" version in order to compare.

Also, Strava premium has a sophisticated segment/ routes capability. But it's pricey for the premium version.

Yeah, I think Endomondo requires you to pay for the premium package for the features you describe. I have it, and I think it's about $3.99 per month or something. It's pretty cheap really, and I love the functionality. But you do need to go to the website to create the route etc.

ETA: In GBP, it works out around £2 per month for me.

If you press where it says "Basic Workout" in Endomondo, that's where you'll find your other options. I have the "pro" version, which offers "Follow a Route" or "Beat Yourself" but I don't know whether these are available in the free one. As a side note, the "pro" app was a 1-time fee (I think $10 US, but I don't remember b/c I paid for it 2 years ago) and the "pro" website options are the monthly subscription-style fees. I don't use the "pro" website options, just the app.

I use runtastic and can compare the routes from when I first started about 1.5 years ago to now, well since I upgraded to runtastic pro it only counts since then (August 2013). Last August I was running a 13:17 min per mile pace--but I was only running 1.3 miles then.

    Today I ran 4.78 miles at a 10:34 pace.

I can compare the same route but I rarely run that short of a distance anymore so it is kind of a moot point for me.
