Nature Valley - Crunchy - Oat's N Honey / Peanut Butter

I have found that I can avoid most bad habits as long as there is a better alternative available. I am a get up shower - dress - out the door kind of guy. Don't take time to sit down and have breakfast until I get to work. And of course that would include making bad decisions like Pop Tarts, Hostess Donettes, breakfast burritos and FuFu coffee drinks.
I have found that these Nature Valley Crunchy bars are very tasty. Sometimes I need 2 packages of them because I just am hungry. @ 190 calories each I am not worried about the calories as much as I am worried if they are good or bad calories. The other types of Nature Valley bars I know aren't the best... but these seem ok. I wish they had more protein, but 4 grams is better than nothing.
So, are these ok for a breakfast food?

They are a perfectly acceptable breakfast food but like you said your going to need higher protein. Why not try grabbing a vanilla greek yogurt too and you can eat that with the nature valley bars, you an even dip them in you want, I think they taste better that way0

These are o.k. for breakfast. If you feel that you need more protein you can get it somewhere else during your day.
(The whole point, remember, is to find ways that you can be successful. Any testing/ new food discovery that works for you, helps you be successful.)0 -
I favor the Kind Healthy Grains bars myself. Some of the flavors have up to 7 g protein and around 200 calories.0

As long as you're getting enough protein daily, then it doesn't matter if your breakfast bars are low in it. However, protein makes people feel fuller, so you may benefit from choosing something with more in it for breakfast.0

@Chrisparadise579 - That is an awesome idea... THANK YOU!0

I think they are delicious and really help with your sweet tooth, however, I would eat one and have some fruit or protein with it (or both, you can have a 100 calorie Greek yogurt and an apple for less calories than a second one).
My favorite are the Kelogg's Harvest Country strawberry/oats bars though. So good and quite filling.0 -
I just picked up some Nature Valley Chewy Protien bars today. Haven't tried one yet, but I figure with 10 grams of protien and 5 grams of fiber, I can fight through the box it if they aren't the yummiest. And they actually have less sugar than most of the other protien + fiber granola type bars I was looking at today
edited to add they are also 190 cals per bar0 -
Nature Valley PB Granola Bar (2 bars) - 180 cal, 7g fat, 30g carb, 5g protein
Kellogg's Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tarts (1 pastry) - 210 cal, 7g fat, 35g carb, 2g protein
Give me the one Pop Tart!
Seriously though, I recommend the Pure Protein Double Chocolate Vanilla Crunch bars - 190 cal, 8g fat, 14 carb, 17 protein. I occasionally eat one for breakfast when I'm in a hurry or snack on one when I have a sweet craving. You can get them at most Wal Mart or Target stores for around $6 for a box of 6.

They have a coconut flavor one now too but the PB are still my favorite. I keep these and Kashi Granola & Seed Bars (chocolate chip chia seed) stashed in the center console of my van for emergency snacks, especially mid afternoon. But I've eaten them for breakfast too.0

Oooh I haven't tried that one yet... I absolutely love the Pure Protein baked ones (hate the others). Will have to try.0 -
I just put an easy recipe for a granola bar in my blog that uses mashed banana and milk instead of oil for moisture.
Each bar, using the ingredients in the written recipe, has 211 calories, 8 g protein, 7 g fat, 33 g carbohydrates and 7 g of fiber.
You can adjust the recipe easily to get numbers you prefer.

I love Pure Protein Bars because I get the protein and it keeps me full for hours.0
