Uh... hi... yeah. Kind of new to this. My name is Brian and, well, a few years ago I managed to pack on over 130 pounds in under one year... this came about when I went to college, due to a number of factors - learning programming at the time, I became highly sedentary, sitting at my PC for hours to do my classwork. My diet was rather... well... you know how a college kids diet can be. To top it off, I one day discovered that, on average, I was drinking over 10,000 calories a day in soda.
I topped out at nearly 290 pounds, after being around 160 pounds all through high school.
Last year I managed to reach a major milestone for myself... I am under 250 pounds. I still have a long way to go to reach my goal... but it no longer seems impossible and, with a new year, I am ready to take the next step.
My wife and I are both trying to lose weight this year (I hope to have her join up MFP soon) and, well... we don't really know how to do this. She is diabetic, so we both eat many, smaller meals during the day. However, we're both full time students and full time workers, leaving us precious little time to make wholesome, home-cooked meals - often, anything we make at home is something akin to pizza, shake n bake chicken, or something else quick and easy - far too often we don't even have the energy to cook and eat out (we try to avoid places like McDonalds and such in favor of Arby's or other places with low-fat options, but even so... it still isn't the best setup).
To put the "icing on the cake", we both suffer from depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder, and a few other things (she is diabetic, Type 2, while I have asthma/allergies, Sleep Apnea, and eosinophilic esophagitis).
All told, this gives us a major uphill battle. I guess more than anything I'm looking for some encouragement... my mother took the easy way out (yes, we still live with my mother and her girlfriend) and got a Gastric Bypass, resulting in her losing nearly 90 pounds in six months. Yes, she feels great and finally has her confidence back... but such an option is, well, not an option for either of us.
If anyone is in the Harrisburg, PA area and is looking for workout partners... give us a shout. To everyone else - howdy!

Hello to you and your bride. Welcome.:flowerforyou:
You will begin to figure out other good food options and ways to incorporate movement into your life.
It is a gradual process, change things slowly - as you can, and just keep moving toward healthier, more active lives.
No one makes these changes over night.0 -
