Do you ever get urges to just go to a fast food place and get something to eat? If so what? Today I had the biggest urge to go to Mcdonalds and get a burger and fries! :blushing:

Not anymore. Back in the day it was Taco Bell.0

Usually the urge is for the Green Chili Burger from Whataburger, McGriddle, Frappe from McDonald's, or for the Frappe from Burger king. It used to be the cheap tacos from Taco Bell.0

Yes.
I find myself often wanting to get a double quarter pounder from mcdonald's. Why would I do that?
Who the eff knows, maybe I want to crap my pants.0 -
I'm a big Dunks drinker, but I resisted the urge to get a coffee this morning before work (and I felt it later on in the form of being absolutely exhausted)...mostly because the drive through line was insane, and the parking lot was packed, haha.
I can go one day without my daily Dunks.0 -

Yep. I try to find other things on the menu that are lower calorie. At McDonald's I will get a side salad and tear up a 4 piece chicken nugget to put in it, In N Out I get the single patty burger, no cheese, and wrapped in lettuce, my biggest downfall is places like Filibertos. I don't understand low cal or moderation when carne asada burritos are within my grasp! Lol0

Its so good! I live in Arizona so Mexican food is on every corner. I dont know how traditional it is, but its definitely not Taco Bell. Its a fast food place and they serve burritos, tacos, tortas, and the other staples beans, rice, horchata etc.0 -
Been Craving a good Gyro.0 -

I swear they're made of "beef" and crack. They're so terrible though.
someone mentioned In-n-out. DEVIL! I love that stuff. Double Double Animal style.
Now I want that, and some fries and chili from Tommy's.0 -
I get the cravings sometimes! I'm vegan so for me it's Veggie Grill or Native Foods. Giant burgers with tons of vegan mayo and sweet potato fries (with chipotle dipping sauce!) with some dessert on the side. YUM! I still go sometimes when I can fit it in my goal but usually it's not worth it to me because even though it tastes delicious my stomach doesn't appreciate it.0

true story.. when I first started this trek I carried a bag of baby carrots and ate those all the way home so I wouldn't stop for a ice cream cone or french fries on the way home..0

Since they have tortas, if they were here, i'd probably go there every day!
@dbmata It's so good and filling an nom nom nom
@kkimpel I never really got people's fascination with Ice Cream, the last time I had it was 5 years ago!0 -
I was fighting the urge to grab some Subway today, but it was entirely out of convenience. I was even dreading how crappy I knew the sandwich was gonna taste. Glad my girlfriend talked me out of it.
But it made me realize something, these chains are only getting people hooked on their food because of time constraints and omnipresence. I can't go 3 miles without seeing a Subway or McDonalds, often both. I go to Subway maybe once a month at this point and it's only ever because I happened to get really hungry in vicinity of one.
Honestly, it might be intimidating to some people but if you try to recreate your fast food favorites at home, you'll often find it's even better-tasting (not to mention cheaper). Dairy Queen has this spicy "flamethrower burger" I was in love with a few years back when I had my connex, turns out the sauce was just tabasco and mayo. Why not make it at home the way I like it and improve it how I see fit?
I'm not trying to sound uppity or anything; I've eaten more fast food than most people my age, definitely. But I really think people should put some more time into cooking for themselves and save themselves the money/strange chemicals.0 -

Agreed, but it's time and cost.
I can make a great burger, one that will make you want to get naked.
I can't do that in 3 minutes and for $6 bucks with fries and a drink.
Ya know?0 -
Curious, what's wrong with subway? Have had it for about a month and lost about 30lbs.
The amount of sodium in their bread is insane, go check it out sometime. It's mostly preservatives to keep it fresh-tasting on its way from the supplier to the franchise. Another problem (kinda nitpicking though) is that there's no guarantee the Sandwich Artist you get is really putting the right amount of dressing on there, if you're going for the fattier condiments they have.
Also I don't care what they say, the s*** they call "tuna" there ain't tuna.
Obviously all that matters in the end for weight loss is calories in < calories out, but I started feeling a lot better in general when I quit going to Subway three days a week and so did my wallet.

god i hear ya, it's a tough thing to put up with but I'm pretty glad I started finding the time to do it. Preparing things the night before helps a long way with that. If it's like 11 PM and I notice I'm just screwing around on the internet, I go to the kitchen and start chopping vegetables/mixing sauces/putting meat into the fridge to defrost, etc.
Gotta make the most of dat downtime.
I'm definitely spending less money on food now too, it's been purely a time issue for me. Drinks in particular are marked-up like crazy at restaurants.0 -
Generally, no, but if I'm out and really, really hungry, I like getting spicy chicken nuggets w/a small fry from Wendy's. Or once in a blue moon I like getting a round egg biscuit and a hash brown from McDonald's.0
-
I'm an ex-chef, so I know precisely what you mean both about meal prep and drink cost. As I was pointing out to my wife last night.
3.50 a can for budweiser at the local bar.
$1 a can at the market.
2.50 profit for purchasing, storing, opening, and recycling a can.
Food costs are more reasonable at a restaurant, but drinks man... those are insane. Sodas are quite easily cents per quart, tea is the same. Liquor is even worse. $7 for a 1.5oz shot of maker's mark. 750ml bottle (23 ounces I think) for $18 at the market. That's $105 in revenue for what is an $18 bottle at retail, less for a restaurant. Great googly moogly.0 -
yes, a maccas cheeseburger or bk salad burger. i blame the cheeseburger thing on being pregnant as thats what i craved last time. but i dont get them as often anymore0
