I have made a beef szechuan chilli for dinner today, but want to make homemade fries.
I haven't a clue how to calculate calories though. i can weigh the cut potatoes first, and work out their calories, but how do i work out how much more calories is added due to deep frying??

You could always measure the oil before you cook them - and again after they're cooked, and calculate in the difference.0

I use canola oil so that it is at least a healthy fat that doesn't add an overwhelming flavor like olive oil and then count a tablespoon of oil for every 1/2 cup serving. I also drain mine on paper towels and literally squeeze some of the oil out with paper towels over the top too to get some of the fat back out. I got this amount by measuring my oil before and after and dividing by how many servings of fries that were cooked in it and then doubling it to make sure I counted all my calories without underestimating. But that was back when I was anal retentive about my calories. Now, I just count what I counted back then and don't measure out my oil anymore. :blushing:0

This is exactly what I do and my family loves them. They prefer them over deep fried potatoes.0 -
