What's working for me....

Hi everyone, I just thought I would share whats been working for me. I know how discouraging it can be to stick with a plan. Or what about wondering how the "other" person is managing to keep weight off.
This is my second go at MFP but this time it's different. I refuse to step on a scale yet, however....I took my measurements on my first day which was September 19th. Today Im 7 days in, and 3 lbs lighter and 2 inches smaller around my waist. Most importantly I feel better. I'm the one who has to be accountable for tracking my calorie intake and exercising. I feel like I have to complete my goals everyday, because if I dont I cant stand the way I feel.
First off, for those out there that are having trouble committing to a work out plan, I hear ya!!!!! I refuse to work out to the point where I'm blue in the face and feel like I just ran a marathon. That might work for some but not for me. I believe that eating well, and incorporating exercise is sufficient enough. The hardest part of beginning to work out isn't the work out itself, it's more getting off my *kitten* thats the hardest part!
It's what were putting in our bodies thats making us gain weight! Not the lack of exercise.
I am 5'6 and last week I weighed approx 178 lbs. This week is different, I watch what I'm consuming now, and I made it up in my mind to stick to a work out plan. I work out in the morning, because I work evenings.....you will have to figure out what works best for you.
Here's my small work out;
1.Brisk walking for 25 to 35 minutes.
2.Lifting 7 lbs weights on each arm. 20 on each arm
3.Squats ( Im doing the 28 day squat challenge, but the most I have to do at a time is 50) I started out doing 10, then the next day I did 15. I recommend doing what you can handle.
4.Planking ( I hold mine for 35 seconds)
5.Step ups on to a chair.....I do 20.
6. Ab crunches, lay on back, have legs resting on a yoga ball and I do approx 30 of these.
This is what I've been doing and it seems to be working well for me. A lot of people think you have to work out so hard in order to lose weight, Im personally not finding this to be true.
My advise, only do what you can handle. If you stick to a basic plan, the chances of failing are slim. In time you can increase your repetitions on exercises or cardio.....in time.
Oh and track your food on here everyday!!!!! Drink lots of water, and just be patient!!!!!
I found it hard to drink lots of water. Here's a tip; Everyday put 8 elastic bands around your wrist, for every glass of water you drink, then remove one elastic. It's a good reminder!
Good luck!

Yah I was wondering about the lbs too...
But realistically speaking
What works for weight loss is a calorie deficit...you don't have to workout...if you want to great...find something you love and doesn't feel like work...something you miss if you don't do it...
My goal and what works for me for weight loss is eating as much nom nom food I can and still lose about 1/4-1/2lb a week...and I do just that...today was as sinful as yesterday with creamy pasta sauce and pasta and pizza and a Tim's coffee and a chocolate bar later tonight...
My goal for health and fitness is hit my macros as best I can and do heavy weights 3-4x a week and if I feel like it HIIT workout or a good walk on my off days and take at least one rest day a week.0 -

Everyone will do it their way and do what works for them. Glad you found what works for you....
You must have obviously stepped on the scale.0 -
Yes, I forgot to mention I stepped on a scale while I was at my Moms....lol. But I refuse to buy one and refuse to be consistent on stepping on one! Should of clarified that for you guys.0

So you stepped on the scale last week for the starting weight and again this week to check the loss? That's actually pretty consistent. I weigh in weekly too.
Congrats on your first whole week.0 -
Wow, I seem to get the feeling that there's a little nit picking going on, sheesh!!!! And no, I did not weigh myself in the beginning....I was going on a limb. Either way who cares! What I wrote was not supposed to be about when and when I did or didn't weigh myself. I'm beginning to think that people would rather nit pick then read what my blog was all about.0

I really get that you have good intentions but this is a forum and not your blog. Your profile comes with a blog that you can write on though. Sooo...that being said, you have to expect comments and have some thick skin.
I'm guessing you will probably rub people the wrong way bc you have been at this about a whole week and you trying to give others tips because you have lost 3 lbs. The thing is....you didn't ACTUALLY hit a 10,000 + calorie deficit in a week. What you did is make better choices and you are a little less bloated with water weight this week. You may possibly get more supportive comments either on your blog or when you a few months down your road and have kept up with some real results before you start throwing those tips to live pieces out. I wish ya the best and good luck.0 -

Negatively gets you no where, and I'm just really excited about this whole new life change, so please if it makes you feel better to rip someone apart because it somehow makes you feel better, then by all means do it somewhere else to people that deserve it.
I on the other hand am going to continue on my happy journey losing weight and feeling great, cheers!0 -

As mentioned this isn't a blog...that is right beside where you clicked...
And as a forum post you will expect people to note things that seem well odd.
It's not being negative it's asking how it's possible that you said this but this happened....esp if you are trying to give advice on how this is done...
And if you notice some of those, me included, have been here a bit longer and based on our tickers...well are gonna ask those questions when someone else is giving advice...
You should note I wasn't negative just added to your post...about finding exercise you love that way it's easier to get up off your butt and that it isn't necessary for weight loss but it's good for your health....those are the things I've learned in the 18months I've been here.0 -

no one's ripping you apart. and negativity doesn't get anyone anywhere....just like positivity doesn't get anyone anywhere. facts get you somewhere. and so do accuracy and repeatable, sustainable behaviors.
if you feel like you're getting beat up for making statements like "i lost 3 pounds" when in fact, you have no way of knowing how much you lost or gained and therefore don't know what is or isn't working yet, the problem isn't with us. no one here is hoping that you fail, and finding out the flaws in your methodology is what gets people past the first week and all the way to their goal.0 -

Erm the people reading care as this is not a blog.
You say this is what works - but have no idea if you lost weight or even gained it - you're claiming you lost 3lbs in a week is complete guess. I could say I lost 5lbs based on a random guess - it doesn't make it true.
You can't come on a public forum and make claims that this will work after a whole week - especially when you're guessing your start weight.
I suggest taking some time to read the forums and discover how they work then find your blog page and blog there. :flowerforyou:0 -

I really wish I would of put this on my profile, not the forum (as it is called I guess) Perhaps I made a mistake with sharing with people what is working for me. Perhaps I made a mistake for sharing positive thoughts, and perhaps all of you that replied so negatively to such a happy uplifting post of mine should really not care so much.
Hey I'm happy, I'm doing it and if I made a comment like I refuse to step on a scale....sorry. Perhaps I should have specified more bang on for those of you that seemed to be more concerned with the scale then the positive vibes I was giving off.
Here's some really accurate news, I stepped on a scale a few days ago while at my Moms it said I was 3 lbs lighter. I took measurements of my body yesterday and it said I am 2 inches smaller in the waist. Hope that is accurate and sufficient enough for you. All I wanted to do was share what was working for me food wise and exercise wise, that's it. I wasnt indicating that it will work for anyone that read my post. Ask yourself this...When you were new and you lost a few pounds and were extremely happy and you noticed inches coming off....didnt you want to tell people too?
I welcome all the people that struggle with their weight, as I do too...to leave positive remarks. Anyone that is going to respond with anymore useless stuff about my weight loss in a negative way, please dont. Please don't ruin my journey to success.0 -

But how did you know you were 3lbs lighter if you never got a starting weight?
And until you've lost weight and kept it off you have no idea what works for you. Telling people you've had a great first week is very very different from telling people here is what works for me - when you're guessing you lost weight.
Oh and this is a forum - you can't tell people how to respond, as has been explained, you have a blog linked to your account, I suggest you find it and use it.0 -
Okay so you are telling us that you've lost 3 lbs in 7 days yet you refuse to step on a scale (I guess you are psychic) ....AND since you've lost a massive amount of weight, i.e., the 3 lbs you are now qualified to tell others what to do to work out?
I hate to be mean - but you deserve to be nailed on this one! My suggestion - do what works for you, but don't think you are qualified to help others until you have lost a significant amount of weight, kept it off, and studied exercise psychology and nutrition.0 -

Perhaps you should change your ticker to note positivity gained or lost instead of pounds?
I mean, since you seem to believe that "being positive" is more important than "speaking facts" then have the ticker reflect as such. I'm not saying you have to use the blog feature. Feel free to post whatever you like right here in the forums. But if what you post is positively full of holes, then you need to be prepared to (wo)man up and face the criticism.
It's not a failing to be wrong. We're all wrong at some point. It IS a failing to not learn from your mistakes.0 -
hostile crowd tonight.
Not a hostile crowd...just a ridiculous post by a "It's all about me" OP. Let's see I'm an expert after 1 week and 3 lbs lost...but I refuse to step on the scale - WTH?0 -
I, for one, am completely sick of OPs negativity. It is really bringing this thread down and I wish she would stop.0

Thank you for this post. I really needed to read this.
I have just committed to MFP again! I lost about 25lbs 2 years ago. I was doing well and then I had a fall and sprained my back. This happened in the fall and then with the terrible winter we had, I just lost motivation and got depressed.
So here I am..trying to figure out or remember how I did so well just 2 yrs ago!
Thanks for the post, I am realizing that as long as I am moving and making healthy choices..I will get back down to where I need to be!
Congrats to you!0
