Help with starting the right track

I threw away my scale for 1 month, and have gained 5 pounds. I thought I was losing weight, or at least maintaining, until I weighed myself today on my new scale. I have been roughly eating 1800-2000 calories per day, and now have a twisted ankle. I need serious help getting on the right track towards losing this weight. I gained 35 lbs in college this year and now weight 131.6 lbs as of today. I would like to weight 110 lbs.
What has helped you stick to your diet? Does anyone have any advice towards sticking to the low-calories? I'm already over from my calories today because I feel so depressed. I appreciate any encouragement you might have so I can begin to feel happy about myself again.
