Ok so with out all the gory details and stuff. I have IBS and my doc suggested I might want to look into something to clear out my system to reset it.
I know that I will need to make sure that I take back in the good since every thing will be cleaned out....
Any suggestions on products I can find online or over the counter or even prescription?
Thanks

You really should consult your doctor as to what you should use, as some of these over the counter cleansers can actually do more harm than good.0

Magnesium Citrate...
Tastes kind of Citrus soda like..... Drink it cold and fast... I don't like it much.
Make sure you can stay home for the day.
Works quickly and it's cheap. You can buy it at Wal-mart or Target. Usually under $3.00.
This stuff is usually recommended before having surgery if the person needs to be "cleaned out".0 -
I already take a prescript drug amitiza, since zelnorm was taken off the market it has been hard to find something that works well. I dont know why he wants me to look over the counter or health food store but maybe I should get an second opinion........?0

This is one of the things they gave me prior to a colonoscopy when I was having IBS with constipation. From what I understand it is suppose to move mountains. For me it didn't do squat. Neither did the prescription stuff they gave me that I had to drink a freaking gallon of the night before the procedure. They ended up having to do 4 enemas to even be able to do the colonoscopy. But the doctor said that I was the only case he'd ever seen that the magnesium citrate didn't work for.
That being said, I got my IBS under control with the BRAT diet of all things. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast. As long as I eat one of those foods daily, I have no problems with back ups. If I do skip them for a bit (the last few days before payday for example), I can get cleaned out again with a couple of days of oatmeal or a ready-to-drink NitroTech chocolate protein shake. My system apparently can't handle high doses of protein at once and those shakes are like 40grams at once. They work so well that I will only drink one on the weekend when I don't have to go anywhere.0 -

Honestly, it is probably because of the side effects of those medications. Zelnorm had a similar effect on the brain as an antidepressant. I was on it for a while too. Anything that is messing with your saratonin levels can mess up other things, too, so a lot of doctors want us to use more natural treatments. At least that is the reason my doctor gave for trying other things. Also, Miralax is suppose to be good too. It was prescription only when I had my issues, but now it is over the counter.0 -
My daughter used to deal with constitpation daily, I have used M. Citrate and MIralax with her. Both worked for her, the doctor always gave her adult doses when she was only 8 her problem was that bad. Yes, drink it cold, works pretty quick in our experience. Miralax worked within the day, I do not know that Miralax would clean out your system though, MC is the only thing that did that for us.0

For me miralax is a joke and so is all that drink extra fiber crap...just gives me unbelievable gas with not much tummy pain relief.....I am at my wits end. I have lost a good amount of weight and I thought it would help but I am still having the same tummy issues. Even when I eat as healthy as can be, stress always takes over and makes to where it hurts to eat at all....0
