Weight follows 7 day trailing average net calories

I track a lot of data in excel and noticed an interesting trend. My daily weight tracks very closely to what I have eaten over the last 7 days, not necessarily the last day. Fascinating.

It would make perfect sense that your body reacts to inputs but cannot do so instantly. Everyone would hit the gym and then go home and admire the results! Ha.

Those are nice graphs. Can you adjust the axis of one so they overlay better to eyeball trends? Or even better yet since you're in excel why not use some nonlinear curve fitting formulas to them and you will be better able to see the effect you describe. There are instructions online and on YouTube on how to do this.

You're plotting NET calories. It would be interesting to compare weight with exercise time or even a third graph of Weight / Calories / NET Calories. Different exercises will stress your body in different manners and could result in different effects on weight or what you consume the next day. Once you capture this you'll have a useful tool.

I've put in suggestions to MFP for better reports. I would like to plot different variables against each other to see any interesting trends or effects of experiences.

    Thanks for sharing your work.

Here's a link to the graph I use daily:

lots more info in there. I have other graphs of BF%, LBM, weight lifted, miles ran, and other details that are TMI. I love data.

Nice work! I may just have to start adding in graphs like that since I enjoy data too! Thanks for your post

I love data, too. This is the second or third time I can recall you posting a bunch of data about your efforts -- just want to say I really appreciate it!

Is there a way to download MFP data (comma delimited or even blank) or do you have to copy it by hand? I'm new to MFP but can see how having historical data could be useful. Thanks.

It's tough because I'm in a cut. My normal maintenance is around 3,000 cal / day.
