Ugh frustrated with snacking

Hiya,

Back at this for 2011. Lost 18 in 2010, gained it back, and want to ultimately lose 110-120 or so. When I logged food today, I was over by 89 calories. That being said, I struggle with late night snacking. I found today that I already closed my journal but was still hungry so ate. Some healthy and some minimally not-so-healthy snack options, but in small amounts. Any suggestions for dealing with this? Either eating after closed or ways to help with later cravings?

Thanks and any ideas and input are appreciated. :)

If you have to have something, grab a piece of fruit that is high in fiber or some Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. The fiber and/or protein will help you feel fuller longer.

Also, 89 calories really isn't that bad. It is nothing to worry about, actually. What is your calorie limit? Are you exercising and eating some of those calories back?

1460 limit. Did not exercise today, but will tomorrow, and usually burn between 300-400 or so when doing that. I supposed it is not too bad as long as I don't pig out. Thanks for the information on the yogurt and cottage cheese. They sound like good options.

Oh....I like the brushing idea. Hadn't thought of that. :)
  • I also struggle with snacking. For instance, this morning at 5am my husband left for work and I couldn't go back to sleep so I ate 2 sugar cookies. I find that talking with someone will help me. Feel free to add me and chat at any time. I usually don't go to bed until around 1 or 2 and wake up at about 5 or 6. I have the app on my iphone and get all my messaging from there.
  • Maybe log in the a.m. 100 calories for night-time snacking. Just quick-add calories and when you eat log what it actually was, but try and keep it in that 100. That way you've already accounted for it. I vote to eat when you're hungry and if it helps to plan ahead, then go for it!

If snacking is a problem for you, you should be careful what you keep around... when we don't have chocolate in the house, I rarely think about it, but if my husband buys some (or we are given some) I can't stop myself. Someone gave us a box of cakes for New Years Eve, and my husband and I both decided to give them away the next day so we wouldn't eat them.
Maybe you could also try spacing out your meals/snacks during the day? Plan for a late night snack but make it a healthy one. Going over your calorie intake by 90 or so isn't a big deal once in a while.
Also, ı agree that brushing your teeth can help avoid snacks :) Good luck
