Can Not Loose Weight

About 3 years ago, I decided to make a huge change. I lost over 56lbs in about a year. I did this by eating lean and clean, as well as a daily exercise plan. I maintained this weight loss for about 2 years. Thennn I finally quit smoking. I noticed right away that my metabolism slowed down. Don't get me wrong, the first few weeks of quitting, I ate all kinds of sweets. I quickly realized I didn't want to be another statistic and ate regularly. This did not help. Over the past year I have gained 30lbs back.

Being discouraged by the numbers on the scale, I decided to stop stepping on the scale. Since June 2014, I have worked out 60 minutes per day, logged my daily calorie intake, kept under 1300 calories per day. After the summer was over, I decided it was time to step on the scale to see my progress. I GAINED 2lbs. Had mini melt down, but decided I somethings gotta change in order to it to work.

So, I changed what I was eating (because we all kind of start eating the same things all the time). I normally only eat on the outside walls of the grocery store, which means, whole foods and try to stay away from anything processed. Drink 10+ cups of water per day, made sure my work outs were always different every day. Weights twice a week, and cardio every day in between. Giving my body 1 day rest from any physical activity. By no means am I looking for a quick fix, but something has to give. I'm still not loosing weight. Last resort, I'm going to see my doctor.

Wondering if anyone has been in the same position, and what did they do to over come it.

    You can gain weight from eat "healthy" or "regularly" - all it takes is a calorie surplus. Quitting smoking didn't slow down your metabolism. It's more likely that you were overeating.

    Can you open your diary? You logged every single day? Without fail? And kept a deficit every single day for the past 3 months? Did you weigh yourself prior to starting to track in June? If not, how do you know what your starting point was?

    If you have logged every single day, kept a consistent deficit and you're not losing, it might be time to see the doctor. But I'd still like to see your diary first.

    1300 calories with 60 minutes of exercise? that is not enough food so your body is going to be resistant to losing weight. Set your macros to 50% protein 30% carbs 20% fat at 1600 calories, that should do the trick
  • I try and not even eat more than 1200 calories, even if I do burn more calories with exercise. Other than a two week vacation, and perhaps a couple days, I log every day. I've made my diary public now. Thanks in advance

  • 1300 calories with 60 minutes of exercise? that is not enough food so your body is going to be resistant to losing weight. Set your macros to 50% protein 30% carbs 20% fat at 1600 calories, that should do the trick
    Lol not losing weight at 1300 cals and you think upping to 1600, I don't care what macros you suggest, is gonna make her lose weight?
  • Kara 2 days I. A row I see exactly 100g banana. This leads me to believe you are guesstimating portion sizes. Do you weigh everything solid and measure everything liquid?

    Yes!!! I would definitely look at upping to 1600. Even if only for a couple days. Your body will hold onto everything it can if it thinks it's starving!! If it is starving, it will start eating muscle, which will hurt your metabolism even more.

    Kara - make sure you're weighing and measuring your foods properly. You'd be surprised how 'guessing' can mess up all the good things your trying to do.

    If you're really eating at a deficit you should be losing.

    if she is not losing weight she is not starving! Smh!!!

    In fact if she is not losing weight she is eating more than 1600 already, barring a major medical issue we don't know about, telling her to increase cals is just silly!

    How are you figuring out how much you are eating? Do you use a food scale?

    I also noticed a lot of entries that said "generic" or "homemade". I would avoid those. If you're making roasted carrots, make a recipe for them and then weigh out a portion. It's much more accurate than assuming that someone else roasted a carrot the same way you did and the 30 calories they assigned to it is correct.

    Finally, I looked back through your diary (8/1 to today). You are not tracking as well as you think you are. The following days were missing or incomplete:
    8/1-8/3
    8/9-8/12
    8/16-8/17
    8/21
    8/23-8/24
    8/27-9/1
    9/3-9/15

    ^That is your issue. Plain and simple. I'm not trying to pick on you, but if you want results, you need to step up your effort and log everything, every day.

    Weigh everything, because a calorie is a calorie - whether it comes from a cookie or a banana.

    THis most bananas I weigh are closer to 120cals each. If you are off by that much on everything you guesstimate every day it adds up quick!

    OMG why do people always think eating more will miraculously make you lose weight? The most common error is miscalculation of intake or over calculation of exercise. In your case you're not eating them all back, so the exercise calories are probably okay. Weigh and measure everything and start logging consistently. Going back a couple of weeks you have nothing.

    Quitting smoking does mess with metabolism and Kudos for you for doing it as its no easy task!!! I notice you said you do workout DVDs if you arent already doing i try Insanity or PiYO , that HIIT is usually what will jump start change in your body again .....Are you feeling good, Eating Right , exercising regularly then screw the number on the scale Be FIT instead of Skinny keep up he good work
  • I weigh almost all my food. If I'm missing 30 calories from a banana hear and there I really don't think that is the real root of my problem. I use a Polar heart rate monitor, so I try and calculate my work outs as best as I can. Thanks for your help guys, just thought trying to post on one of these boards would help :/
  • Ok I just have to put this out there....I have lost 74 pounds since april. I do not measure everything I eat, I do not measure all of my liquids. I know for a fact I forget to log some things...yet I still lose. I feel people get so hung up on numbers. It is NOT ALWAYS CALORIES IN CALORIES OUT!!!! THere are so many other factors!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FOr crying out loud we are not meant to be put into these cookie cutter molds. WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT!

    OP you are NOT eating enough. Your body is mad at you because you are not feeding it enough. If you do not give your body enough fuel it will store every little thing for reserves making it virtually impossible to lose weight. How do Iknow this? Because I have seen it happen to me and many others!!!!!!

    OP see your Doctor to make sure you do not have hormonal issues or even something else. Also, Try eating 5-6 mini meals of about 300 calories or so and eat higher protien, a little less carbs, lots of veggies. These things have helped me achieve major goals!

    You might want to consider getting a check-up soon. Maybe it's your thyroid?

    I think you should go to the doctor in case something is off medically like your thyroid.

    Ok I also see you have coffee with milk.how much milk do you use? Are you sure it is the same amount that is used in the entry you used? This is 2 possible problems in just breakfast. These small 20-50cal issues add up and eat away your deficit.

    The real root of your problem is eating too many cals for the weight loss you want, barring a medical issue you haven't disclosed.

    You go on saying it's not about CICO, then you tell the OP she's in starvation mode, which doesn't exist.

    OP, everyone in this post is trying to help you. If you're confident about your weighing and measuring (though definitely start weighing fruits/veggies...some of my bananas have gone up to 150g!), then you should probably see a doctor to see if there's anything that could be hindering your weightloss.
