When will I start to see results?

I hit the dreaded weight loss plateau a few months ago. I joined MFP about a week or so ago thinking this would help me keep track of my calorie intake, because my diet is where I suspect I've been lacking. Exercise is not a problem for me. The scale still hasn't budged. In the last two weeks, I've been very strict about my diet (under my calorie goal every single day) and I've been exercising almost every day (30-45 minutes/ mostly cardio). I realize I probably just need to keep going and give it more time before I start to see results, but I already feel a little discouraged. Realistically, how long does it take to start seeing results? Do I need to increase the intensity of my workouts? What gives?

Any advice is appreciated.

Do you weigh all your food? It could be that you are eating far more than you think.

It also took me about 15lbs to start seeing a difference. After the water weight drop, I started feeling my pants fitting differently, and then could see the change.

It all depends on how much you have to lose, and where your body decides to lose it from. It's different for everyone.
  • I've been down this path before. When I hit a plateau, I took the advice of a fitness friend and switched up my workouts completely. The theory was that my body had adapted to my workouts and I needed to "shock" the system to get out of my rut.

For me I switched to lifting weights, instead of dedicated cardio and bought a bike to ride. My routine wasn't any harder, but after a month or so, I was able to push through and my weight started to fall again consistently. After this, I varied my workouts more.... YMMV.
