I'm confused about how much carbs a teen (like me) should be eating a day.
Also, how many grams of carbohydrates do you guys eat? Maybe that may help me understand it better
THANKS

It's not really about how many carbs you eat. it's about your way of life. If you chose the WOE (the low carb life lifestyle) then it's an entire different story. I myself don't eat more than 20 carbs a day and i absolutely love the way i feel. I'm never hungry, never bloated and i dont get crazy cravings. For real!!
If you are seriously interested in that way of living, i suggest you go to your local bookstore and get books on that topic. Cuz it's not a one "day or 10 day thing". You have to be committed But i can guarantee you that you will lose weight and love the way you feel. Anyway, if you are interested. you can always add me or msg me
Hope it helps0 -
The minimum recommendation is 130 grams per day. That is the minimum amount to provide the body with the only fuel for the brain and for red blood cell production. The other standard recommendation from the Institute of Medicine is to intake 45-65% of your total calories from carbohydrates. So, say you are suppose to eat 1500 calories. You multiply 1500 by 45% to get 675 calories from carbs. Divide that by 4 to get grams and you get 169 grams per day. Multiply 1500 by 65% to get 975 calories from carbs. Divide that by 4 to get grams and you get 244 grams per day. All that being said, each person is slightly different and some people do better on a lower carb plan and others do better on a higher carb plan. I do best on 70+% carbs, and have a higher calorie intake so I get closer to 500 grams of carbs per day. My best recommendation is to play around with the % you put in your goals here and see where you get the best results. Don't just go by weight for your results, though. Test body fat % if you can or at least take measurements. If you are losing body fat but maintaining muscle you won't lose as fast on the scale but will see bigger changes in BF% and measurements.0

there's a table at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reference_Daily_Intake based on 2,000 calories per day intake, but if you set your age, weight & desired weight loss here on MFP you will see your recommended amount shown at the bottom of your daily food diary customised for your specific details (you may need to go into settings to select carbs as one of the 4 aspects shown here)0

Thanks everyone!0

Thank you but I saw the recommended amount but to me it seemed like a lot but I'm not sure if it actually is a lot. They recommended me to eat 172g of carbs a day.0 -
172 isnt much, some people eat thousands!!0

Oh okay haha that's good then. I'll probably aim for 20-30 grams less than that then0

Sounds excellent! You'll lose weight for sure! And try to eat most of those carbs in form of veggies. Not all cream and cheese is carb free but meat is ZERO trace..unless its been cured in some kind of sugary substance0

Oh and berries are the fruits that have the least carbs and almond milk too. Milk has way too many. So try to get more bang for your buck
I got a whole list of food, i can help you out..also there are foods that tend to stall. So careful with the "sucralose" (splenda) foods. Usually they say not to take more than 3 a day!
Oh and potatoes have starch..its a no no and avocados tend to stall
Cheers!0 -
Thanks so much! That really helped I've researched these things but its even better to know from a person who is actually on a low-carb diet0
