Newbie- losing inches not lbs?

Hi there, i'm new to the forum. I had been using the fitness app to keep track of calories and found it to be helpful.
I started on this weight loss journey when i weighed my self one day and saw it hitting 216, the highest I had ever been. 3 things changed for me that made me realize i have to do something- no more excuses.
1. Being told I was pre-diabetic and being put on metormin and advised losing weight could get me off this medication.
2. My twin sister losing 20 lbs by eating healthy over a year. (her starting weight was 168)
3. getting a puppy and wanting to take her on long walks and play with her without feeling tired or out of breath
Since I started in February I have lost 10 lbs over all and kind of stuck at 196. I continue to work out but not losing lbs but appears inches (?}. I was kind of worried about it but my doctor says I should avoid looking at the scale compulsively.
My frustration comes from not losing weight as quickly as i would like but i assume that is normal.
Still working at it but wondering when i will stop losing inches and start losing pounds, is anyone else encountering this?

be happy about the inches!! you are gaining more muscle and getting toned, that can happen!! My weight was dropping fast the first week, then I go in the gym and I feel like it halted, but than I woke up and realized my back fat was going away! it's been almost 3 weeks and my waist is 3 inches smaller, (my gut is 2 inches and my butt 1) I lost 3% body fat!!! I will take 3% over 7lbs ANY DAY of the week!! and also more importantly, how do you feel now? are you still tired and out of breath taking your dog for a walk? and are your clothes more lose?0

Yes, this is happening to me. The scale is not really moving but I have lost 2 inches in my hips, a quarter inch in my bust and a half inch in my waist since I took my measurements 2 months ago. I'm encouraged by this but like the OP, I would love to see the scale move because this is not the weight (193 pounds) I want to be. I'd like to lose another 25 pounds. I will stay the course and see what happens.0

I would gladly take inches over lbs anytime. Be thankful that you are losing inches as you will feel so much better looking in the mirror.0

If you're losing inches then I would say you're doing the right things. Weight can be so fickled because it can change so dramatically from day to day or even hour by hour depending on what we eat. If you're losing inches, feeling better and looking better then I agree with your Doc. Don't worry so much about the scale. Good luck with your goals.0

Thanks for your input everyone. I feel less worried.
Yes with those few inches lost i feel a lot more energetic and kind of have an attitude "slowly but surely". The really good part is when i first started going to the gym the max i could walk was 1.5 mph and the other day i realized i'm up to 3.1mph , that made me feel pretty good. Also when i first started i could do at most 20 minutes and now up to an hour.
Yes with the puppy i can more time playing with her -it takes longer for me to get tired (she's the energizer bunny).
I bought new shirts today. Before I use to dread shopping for any clothing as usually things didn't quite look right NOW it's better.
I think i need to break the habit of being a slave to the scale and stick to the tape measure .0 -
