TOM, a binger and other people's cereals

It's my TOM (sorry) and I'm struggling with energy any way.

I also struggle with binge eating which I'm working on.

What I'm finding hard is living with other people. If I'm honest, especially a few days before my TOM I would love to eat every carb in sight. This week I have my mother in law staying and my husband has brought back a load of cereals. I got up at 7 am with my LO, the others were all asleep. By 9 am I ate half a box of "blueberry wheats" like whole grain squares filled with jam.

I thought, I can just have one bowl as the craving for the cereals on the side was tough...

I know it's my fault but it's so hard, my mood and energy levels in the am are low and sometimes food is what I look forward to and what I look to to ice me up (I'm working on this guys! CBT in the pipeline).

The thing I'm nervous about is my husband is away for some of this week, I have my mother in law staying who says things like "aren't you having any" and she keeps cinnamon bread, cakes, biscuits, chocolate and CEREALS (she has a healthy approach to food, which I've tried and I can't do).

I'm trying to make a plan, if I'm honest if i don't do this now, I'll binge all week. I've done that every other time she has been here.

My LO goes to nursery in the mornings, three times in the week, but he is picked up by 13.00, so I have the whole day to entertain my mother in law, and my LO and my mother in law likes snacks and three meals (I know this is the perfect way to eat but it's really tough for me, intact I could just cry thinking about it- I wish I was like that, but at the moment I'm not so, tree we go, before anyone says advises "have just a little bit" I tried that it's not working. My peak binge times are from 07:00- 16:00!

Evenings are find for me, I don't know why.

I wish I could afford to eat out for every meal but I can't. This morning with my "episode" with the blueberry wheats just proved to me this week will be a struggle. Next weekend we have other children staying who eat nutella on white bread toast for breakfast, muffins, cheerios and pizzas... and I have to do all the food preparation! help please!

What works for me is making sure I'm full with the foods I want to eat.
Eggs, yogurt, veggies, meats, fish, nuts, fruits, some olive oil and cheese. Then I'm much more likely NOT to eat surgar-laden treats or I just have a serving or 2.
So, have nutritious foods available and fill yourself with those.

    Hi

Outside of moving out of your house for the week, you'll really have to think with your Rational/logical mind. Tell yourself you are NOT out of control - calm yourself down - breathe - you are STRONGER than you know girl!

Planning is SO important for you before this week happens. Plan EVERY single meal - prep it prior to week - Include protein rich items into your breakfast - NO cereal or 'carbie' stuff. ie. hard boiled eggs, cans of tuna Plan a menu that includes the amount - don't leave it up for 'chance'.

I would offer some things for you 'to do' in order to replace the binge with something, but you should also come up with replacements. Change the binge into something else that you desire -

DO NOT starve yourself throughout the day - Eat with your MIL and use her to your 'advantage' - because being with her as much as you can will not give you an opportunity to binge. Also, is there anyway that your MOM could be asked to prep the kids meals so that you are not left with the nutella, etc?

    Good luck...you can do this

Yes, my rational mind appears, in the evening generally! Thank you so much for your post. I think before I would always think. I'll just do my own thing but I have to be honest, that's never worked before, and I know the whole week will be tough, that's before doing it. It's my mother in law so not my own mum so I also feel I have to deliver! I thought I could ask her to do kids meals at the weekends.

Yes planning is the key! I keep thinking I'll have carby lunches with her, but it doesn't work I wouldn't binge I'm front of her too much either , so you're right in that sense, I can use her to my advantage , good thinking. It's just I know if I have sandwiches or cake with her at lunch I feel tired and just want more in the afternoon - I know I'm odd. So planning the meals are going to be important. I didn't think maybe I could take her and my son out for cake in the afternoons - them I won't be able to binge it will be one slice in a cafe and the afternoons need filling (she can't walk far so we can't go out and about unfortunately).

Thank you for your help- it's all about strategy ;-) I will unfortunately always be the girl that wants to "eat the lot" :-(

Hmmm yes I was thinking scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for lunch - I think she likes that.... But she will need bread with it ...

Yes good advice thank you x
