My workout routine is getting harder???

I've been doing the same routine for almost 10 months now and it's so hard now that I barely can do it. It's been this way for about three weeks now. What is going on???? I've been running two miles per day four days a week. A few months ago I added the elliptical. Everything was great. I've lost tons of weight, started toning and everything but her lately I'm lucky to get through one mile without having to stop. Why am I going backwards??? During this difficult time I've noticed an increase in muscle tone though. My legs hurt now like they did in the beginning. I'm soo confused.

How much do you eat? If you eat too little and don't fuel your workouts by giving your body adequate nutrition, you will struggle......

I was going to say possibly overtraining or too few calories. Your body needs adequate rest and fuel. Too low calories or reduced carbs will make your workouts harder . Take a look at your food log for the past 3 weeks and see if that's it.

I've been doing around 1200 per day give or take but maybe since I seem to be building muscle, I need more. I'm pretty close to my goal honestly- 8lbs away and I honestly wouldn't be sad if I didn't loose another lbs. I think I just want regular exercise and a healthy diet.

I think you nailed it- we just moved less than two weeks ago. I've had lots of sleepless nights, stress, and been really low on carbs. Plus, I've been drinking coffee everyday to stay awake because I'm so behind on rest. I normally don't do that. I guess it's obvious.

You are not building muscle if you are losing weight. You would be either losing fat/muscle/water. Impossible to gain muscle while on a a deficit.

My guess would be over training along with under nourishment. Are you only running/eli or do you have lifting routine as well?

I've been lifting as well- I also starting kickboxing and I just don't seem to have anything left.

I think you found the answer you were looking for, but I wanted to add in that as you get closer to your lean goal weight, your caloric deficit should be getting smaller and smaller. Your body doesn't have the same energy stores that it did 50+ pounds ago. So ideally, you should eat more calories now that you are smaller, and if you are adding more activities, that means even MORE calories on top of that. It will go a long ways towards energy for workouts, and being so close to your goal already, slowing down the rate of loss won't add much time to reach those goals.

Hrm...Good advice. I never thought of it like that. I guess there's really no need to for the deficit to be so great now. I think I can bump it because my new focus will really be on toning soon.

Sounds like you probably already have the answer, but I thought I'd throw in my experience just in case.

A couple of years ago I had a similar experience. Suddenly I just didn't have the energy to make it through the workout I had been doing for months. I had been progressing and adding time to my cardio and weight and reps to the lifting. But all of the sudden I was sucking wind and just couldn't do it any more. Turns out I was pregnant. Surprise! The first trimester for me means soul sucking fatigue.

Anyway, probably not your issue, but reading your first post made me think of it.

Sounds like you need a week off for rest. If you have been hitting it hard for 10 months without a rest your body is probably just tired.
Try doing less for a week, and then hitting it hard again the following week.
