Padded Cycling Shorts - what size should I go for??

I'm looking at some padded cycling shorts that have great reviews on Amazon. I normally buy my gym bottoms in a size 18 (uk) and they are a bit loose but it means I can pull them right up to prevent any muffin top!
Anyway, the sizes for this are 16-18 or 18-20 - should I go for the smaller ones or the bigger ones?

ETA: I'll be wanting to wear them under my gym trousers because NO ONE needs to see me in shorts!

I'd go with the smaller ones.
I personally like a tight fit from them.0 -
Try both. Buy one of each, and then buy more of the one that works best. If the smaller one is not one you can fit into, then save that for a future reward!0
