    Ashley that sounds downright delicious!!!!
  • If you don’t have a lot of time in the mornings, try making egg muffins and freezing them. They reheat in seconds in the microwave, are endlessly adaptable (add vegetables, low fat meats, etc.). Here’s a link to a recipe: http://kalynskitchen.blogspot.com/2006/10/egg-muffins-revisited-again.html .

Breakfast burritos are also an option. You could prep vegetables, grate cheese, and crack open a can of black beans on the weekend. And that would leave scrambling an egg in the morning (which takes about 5 minutes on the stove).

I always add eggs or protein powder to oatmeal to increase the protein %.

I eat two hard boiled eggs every morning.. I cook up enough to get me through the week, then I peel a couple the night before and keep them in a baggy in the fridge. The next morning, I toss some sea salt in there and head out the door, I can eat them on the way to work. :)

According to...? Oatmeal is just fine for breakfast. Of all of the folks I know in the health + fitness industry, no one has ever once said this to me... The hardcore weight-lifters I know have a protein shake first thing, but then oatmeal and egg whites an hour or so later. What are you basing this broad statement on, exactly?

Making a blanket claim like this without ANY information or resources to back it up is really bad form and it's not helping anyone looking to improve their overall health and well-being.

You can always mix in a little protein powder into your oatmeal. You can also try the Carnation Instant Breakfast Essentials mix. You can mix with water or mix. Costco has 30 individual packs for $6 through the end of the month ($2 instant rebate takes them from $8 to $6). They taste good, but do have a fair amount of sugar.
  • Have a protein bar. NO Dishes to wash! Maybe Atkins or anyone you like the taste better.

Wow! These recipes sound great. I know I didn't start this thread, but it is sort of what I was looking for. I'm not a big fan of sugar in the morning, and now that I'm going to start my diet, I dread the idea of having to have sweet breakfast shakes or fruit smoothies for breakfast. I want something that tastes like bacon for breakfast, not like cake, and these breakfast ideas sound wonderful and not sweet at all! Thanks! :)

Well first, she asked for protein breakfast ideas, not carb ideas.
Oatmeal has 27 carbs per cup and is ranked 49 out of 100 on the glycemic scale.
Why would you want to trigger an insulin reaction on your very first meal of the day?
Insulin in the bloodstream causes our body to store energy as fat rather than burn it.
Why do you think diabetic diets are low carb?
Thats why protein is better to start the day with instead of carbs.
Healthy does not necessarily always equal "no or low fat".
