From anorexic to binge eater. Please help.

Hi, my name is Liz and I have been having a battle with food for the past year. I started getting obsessed with being thin about a year ago and its been crazy ever since. It got worse when I started to count calories and work out excessively. I began to deprive myself of anything I knew wasn't good or I thought would make me fat, and if I would cheat I would punish myself with a good long workout. It got a lot better when I visited my family out in Oregon. I stopped counting and I ate what I wanted, and for once in a long time I wad happy. Until I got home... I got on the scale 3 days after landing home and discovered I had gained 10lbs. Thats a lot in only 2 weeks time. I didn't let it get to me tho. I kept my head up and kept on with my life choices, which at the time was boot camp. I'm now at school, and have gained even more weight. I have a new eating disorder now, I can't stop eating... every day its a battle to putthe food down. I'm over 20lbs heavier than when I left for Oregon, and its only getting worse. Please help...
~Liz

So sorry to hear. I have been where you are now. Please accept that you need more help than you can find at myfitnesspal.
What you have is an eating disorder. Find yourself an Overeaters Anonymous meeting or another disorder group. Check to see if you have an Employee Assistance Program at work. Check with your health insurance provider to see if you have coverage for mental health issues.
    You cannot do this alone.

Agreed about getting help, it is worth it, you are worth it!

Just know that the eating you are doing is a normal reaction to the deprivation. If you can bear with it and eat 3 good meals and 2-3 good sized snacks per day things will get better. You need a therapist and/or dietitian who is trained in treating eating disorders to help you to safely develop an eating plan and stick with it when your mind is freaking out.
  • Thank you, guys. I'm still struggling a little bit, but I recently told my mother what I am going through. She is trying to be supportive, but doesn't really understand why this is happening to me.

Are you currently in college? Your school should have some kind of a health center and may provide free or sliding-scale counseling.

This page has some great information and resources as well: http://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/1575987-eating-disorder-resources

There's a link to this site on the above page, but it's worth it to post as an individual link: http://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/

Finally, this site has a lot of great information: http://www.youreatopia.com/

It could be a good idea to forward these links to your mom so she can do some research as well, if you're having a hard time explaining what you're going through to her.
