Best place to put your scales

This may sound like a stupid question but where's the best place to put your scales? I had them in the bathroom (tiles), various places in the house (all wooden floors) and in the laundry which is plastic lino and I get a different reading from each spot.
Is it best just to find the flattest surface because I do notice a bit of a lopsidedness in some places.

wood floor or linoleum..but dont move it ..it should remain in the same spot for the next time u weigh in *flat surface*0

Yeah just weigh yourself in the same spot every time, don't put it on carpet or soft spots, and get naked in the morning to do it 'cause that's the best way!! ))0

Choose a hard, flat floor and keep the scale there. The type of hard floor really doesn't matter, nor does the room. I keep mine in the bathroom. But for weigh-ins I use my Wii Fit since the balance board is more sensitive and hopefully accurate.0

I am a college student and have a scale in my room and always weigh on the carpet. Is this bad/ inaccurate? It's not like a fluffy rug, just light carpeting. How off do you think it would be? Would it weight me heavier or lighter than on hard wood? Just curious0 -

I would put mine on the moon. Given the difference in gravity you weigh 16.5% of what you do on Earth making me about 30lbs in total. Damn, I am stopping my fat loss quest right this second...
Seriously though, on a hard flat surface is best. Keep them im the same spot and weigh yourself under the same conditions everytime (ie, same clothing, roughly the same time, after using the bathroom etc.)
It's not really the number that's important but the overall trend over time (hopefully downwards.)0 -

Mine is in my closet - but since I'm a SAHM and don't get dressed everyday (living life in sweats...) I'm thinking the kitchen! Just as a reminder before I hit that fridge & Pantry!0

It weighs you much lighter on carpeted floor ebcause the scale sort of sinks in.. I find it can way up to 10 pounds elss ( sorry for this bad news)0 -
I am surprised that no one said in a trash can or a drawer for a bit. Here is what I would do if I were in your shoes, trust me this is much better than a scale. Get out a tape measure and measure yourself everywhere. If you have the means get your body fat tested (I use the BodPod but it isn't cheap). The best time to do this is in the beginning too. The reason you want to do it in the beginning is because that is likely when you will see your best improvements. If you talk to any fit person that is "plateauing" or in general having trouble moving forward they often only have one set of data, the scale.
The more information you have the better. I realize for some people the weight is the main goal but if this is going to be a lifetime plan record everything and place the information on the scale with the same relevance that you would dress size or waist size or body fat%. I know for me the number on the scale is way down the list on measurements. In two weeks I gained 2.6 pounds of lean muscle mass (yet I stayed at the same weight). Now that is motivating.0 -

You took the words right out of my mouth!!! The scale does lie and muslce weighs more than fat...and for the ladies, we have a tendancy to gain water weight as our monthly cycles change. I think seeing a number on the scale does more harm than good. And I think there's nothing worse then seeing the pounds not coming off on the scale - but its a great feeling when you see all your pants are too big on you.0 -
