Pre Work Out Supplement while eating defecit-thoughts?

Not sure if this belongs in fitness/exercise or here. So I got a groupon for a max muscle nutrition store not realizing I couldn't use it for protein. So I bought this pre work out deal called FBX-full blown extreme. It has creatine & caffeine.
Now I am realizing I think I made a mistake in getting this, and I should have got like vitamins or something. I think the guy at the store assumed because I have small arms that I was trying to build muscle, but actually I am trying to loose fat and go from a 34 to 32 waist size.
I do use half a scoop prior to workouts, and it gives me a energy boost which is nice after work when I am tired. But now I am thinking I am just wasting this. I think I should be using it if I ever decide to try to put on muscle. I do lift but at a calorie deficit I don't think I will be able to add muscle-no newbie gains for me I have been going to gym for a long time. Anybody have any thoughts on this? Should I be drinking this stuff while having a deficit or should I wait until I want to put muscle (surplus)? Or does it not matter either way, it is simply for energy for my workouts?
