Bored w/Your Same Ol' Treadmill Run, Try This

The Infamous "Hockey" Workout. For those of you who have never heard of this one, this was one of the preseason workouts for a hockey team's training manual.

To start - Warm-up run at a normal pace for 1 mile. (1.0 mile total)
Walk .25 mi. (1.25 total)
Sprint at a faster than normal pace for .25 mi. (1.5)
Walk .25 mi. (1.75)
Sprint .25 mi. (2)
Walk .15 mi. (2.15)
Sprint .15 mi. (2.3)
Walk .15 mi. (2.45)
Sprint .15 mi. (2.6)
Walk .1 mi. (2.7)
Sprint .1 mi. (2.8)
Walk .1 mi. (2.9)
Sprint .1 mi. (3)
Walk .05 mi. (3.05)
Sprint .05 mi. (3.1)
Walk .05 mi. (3.15)
Sprint .05 mi. (3.2)
Walk .05 mi. (3.25)
Sprint .05 mi. (3.3)
Walk .1 mi. (3.4)
Sprint .1 mi. (3.5)
Walk .15 mi. (3.65)
Sprint .15 mi. (3.8)
Walk .25 mi. (4.05)
Sprint .25 mi. (4.3 total)

Walk until your not as beat as an old rug.
This is supposed to simulate "ONE" period of hockey. If your really feeling froggy, try to do "TWO" periods of hockey.

    Sounds very similar to HIIT training. Thanks for the rec - I'm going to give it a shot.

    that is very interesting...think i'll try it tonight while i'm watching biggest loser...i typically do 4-6 miles depending on how much running i do...

    I was going to try intervals today too, but with time instead of distance, I was going to sprint for one minute, two minute walk recovery. Thanks for the post!

    did this tonight on the treadmill while i watched biggest loser...ended up doing 5.75 miles....after i finished the program i just walked at 3.5-3.8 until the show was over...thanks it kept me busy on there....i'll do it again for sure....
